I had a couple of 'tweets' this week with the latest info about this much-anticipated guide. Publisher's blurb: ID Handbook of European Birds Nils van Duivendijk Photographs by AGAMI Photo Agency A groundbreaking two-volume illustrated reference book covering all of Europe’s birds Would...

I've just had a tweet informing me that "After 12 months the translations for Handboek Europese Vogels (ID Handbook of European Birds) by Nils van Duivendijk ... are done, fine-tuning and editing to come. Due autumn 2024" - just in time for my birthday I hope - fingers crossed!

"An Illustrated Field Guide” seems an odd choice of subtitle for a book on Mesozoic birds given we don't actually know what they looked like and can't get into the field to see them!

The Princeton website says 23rd November. Covering 45 species in almost 1400 photos suggests an extraordinary 30 photos per species!

WildGuides/Princeton have released a couple of double page spreads from their forthcoming 'Europe's Birds' which look promising although less promisingly the publication date has been put back (again) until the 12th October

A newly published book "Invasive Birds: Global Trends and Impacts" (CABI 400pp) looks fascinating but at a prohibitive price I doubt it will have the readership it deserves. It's listed at £135 on several sites (although Amazon has it down for £95.36 and, bizarrely, a Kindle edition at £108)...

I can't find any details of the book online let alone who the main authors are so can you send a link or tells us who they are? The post and the link provided only refers to "Smiths" & "adriaens" (presumably Dutch author Peter Adriaens). I think the key to the success of the book will rest...

There was an excellent workshop & presentation online today which can be seen at (215) EBBA2 book launch - YouTube - a short overview of what it looks like can be found at about 1 hr 7 mins in. It looks absolutely superb and a must-have for anyone interested in European birds.

Thanks for the heads up - on the basis of these plates a rough estimate suggests the new guide will have more than twice as many images per species than Harrison's original (plus more species of course). It's also good to see the use of annotations on the plate.

WildGuides have now posted two spreads from their forthcoming 'Flight Identification of European Passerines' book. The second one on Bee-eater gives some idea of the sort of treatment we can expect in the book. I confess that I find the photos of Bee-eaters rather more useful than the handsome...

Absolutely, which is why I'm rather surprised by the suggestion it'll appear so soon. At least Lynx doesn't have the reputation that some publishers have acquired of promising too early & delivering late.

Thanks for this. Even though the publication date remains unclear at least I now know for sure who's publishing it. From what little can be seen in the 'blurb' it promises to live up to expectations.

Yes, I have seen it, thanks. The comment that it's "in press" back in March makes it still more peculiar that no news of the book has since surfaced.

Thanks. I'd have thought that if it remains unlisted by any publisher, which still seems to be the case, then it must be several months away at best (unless privately published which would be unusual)

Is there any news of Peter Harrison's "Seabirds: The New Identification Guide"? Back in March 2020, in an interview Harrison commented that he hoped "... to have this on the bookshelves by December at the latest. And the official launch will be in January of 2021". However, in a quick check...

I think a number of the points raised here regarding 'All the Birds of the World' are simply the price you pay for squeezing so much into a single volume. The QR codes may be 'unsightly' to some but they're also very useful. I find the comment that it's 'filled with ads' a huge exaggeration...
