Tamron 2nd generation SP 150-600mm Di VC USD 'G2'

If you've ended up with the one that handles best for you then that's ultimately the right choice as there's less than a bee's dc*k between them optically. If the unit you finally carried out was VERY sharp then good choice ! :t: (I hope you got it at the Black Friday sales price ;) :) Make...

Tamron 2nd generation SP 150-600mm Di VC USD 'G2'

And yet - the G2 Tammy tested sharper at both 500mm and 600mm, and ........ is 300 grams lighter, and completely fine tunable on an individual unit/set-up basis, and cheaper ! ;) This gives the advantage in reach and cropped photos to the Tammy. Pretty much the primary concern among birders...

Tamron G2 comes out on top A review by Camera Labs has seen the Tamron G2 come out on top for centre sharpness at 5, and 600mm, in comparison to the 1st Gen A011, the Nikon 200-500, and the Sigma C and Sports. https://www.cameralabs.com/tamron-sp-150-600mm-f5-6-3-di-vc-usd-g2-review/...

Thanks Neil, Looks like you've got a good copy .... All of those images show good sharpness and detail :t: I don't know where these characters doing these reviews are getting their MTF charts from, but there seems to be almost as much variation in those as there is unit to unit variability...

Tamron 2nd generation SP 150-600mm Di VC USD 'G2'

Hi Neil, Thanks for your input :t: I looked at the MTF curves over at "Photography Life" for all the offerings at this level, and the Tammy G2 comes out on top, just besting by a smidge both the Niki and even seemingly the Siggy Sport too (can that be right ? the Sigma website seems to show...

Tamron 2nd generation SP 150-600mm Di VC USD 'G2'

Sorry to hear that your particular example is not quite a good representation of the breed or what you had hoped for ..... Some unit to unit variability seems to affect all the brands at this price point. Have you tried fine tuning the AF ? As I understand it there is a matrix of 18 data...

DXOMARK review of the G2 Tammy (on a Canon 5dsr) out today https://www.dxomark.com/tamron-sp-150-600mm-f5-6-3-di-vc-usd-g2-review-affordable-tele-zoom/ I'm really struggling to see any justification to change to this lens especially as the price is remaining stubbornly high. No real...

Tamron 2nd generation SP 150-600mm Di VC USD 'G2'

Considering performance on the Nikon D500 body only, which is the best performing lens out of the G2 Tami, and the 200-500 Niki? Criteria would be (at say 30m + distances): * IQ wide open at 600mm and 500mm respectively. * How does this change with the Niki stopped down to f6.3 and cropped...

Tamron 2nd generation SP 150-600mm Di VC USD 'G2'

Mike, I would say that it's still aimed at the C, but having an each way bet with tackling the S too. The Sigma Sport still has 2 FLD lenses that even the Tammy G2 doesn't have (assuming they would trumpet it if they did). The Sport was widely regarded as sharper than the Tam G1 especially wide...

Tamron 2nd generation SP 150-600mm Di VC USD 'G2'

If anything, this probably confuses the issue further ?? It sure would have been nice if they managed to quicken the aperture to f5.6 at 600mm ...... that would have been killer ! :gn: Despite all the niceties, at the end of the day, the lens will live and die on it's sharpness. :brains...

Tamron 2nd generation SP 150-600mm Di VC USD 'G2'

Yes. Some handy upgrades, improved AF, decreased mfd down to 2.2m, purpose designed TC's (AF with 1.4x for f8 focusing cameras), 4.5 stop VC with 3 modes (including panning mode), slight weight increase ~50grams, minor Optical redesign (1 extra element) supposedly gives lower CA, and better...
