    Durham Birding

Two kestrels spotted in fields in Darlington. One was quite a surprise spot because the tree it was in overlooks a field which has been destroyed for housing development. The whole area is a mess, a former farmers field ruined for more houses.

Anyone on here visit Brinkburn Nature Reserve in Darlington? Its just up the road from me and its had a bit of clean up over the last few years I think. We sometimes visit as a family, good walk in the woods and there's a good size lake with jetty.

Any reports of an Egret in the area? Pretty sure I've just seen one in a field in Darlington. It had the distinctive hump under the neck of a heron, was pure white and flew straight and slow. But I've never 'had' an egret yet so I'm not sure of which species its more likely to be.

    Durham Birding

I saw a large bird flying over our house the other day. It looked Heron size and I thought Grey Heron, but it looked wrong! Just something about it didnt say Heron, and then it called, a weird un-heron like sound. Possible stork or crane??

Took the kids to the South Park,Darlington yesterday and walking along the river on the way in I saw what I think was a Goosander! Grey body and brown head like a Pochard but with slender bill and a tuft at the nape. Seemed out of place somehow,it being a Sawbill

Just got a book out of the library,Where to Watch Birds,North East England, and in the back under Additional Sites it mentions Drinkfield Marsh. Thanks Ian. I was hoping to hear of sightings in Darlington itself as I don't drive and am rather confined to just this area at the moment.
