    Durham Birding

I noticed a couple of Magpies today making a hell of a racket in the low trees opposite where I live. They had taken exception to a Buzzard which had perched on a fence post underneath them. This went on for a couple of minutes before the Buzzard flew off slowly making me think he couldn't have...

    Durham Birding

This bird hopped out in front of me up on the Moors yesterday. I thought it might have been a juv Meadow pipit but after I posted it in the I D section I'm told it's a Skylark:

Thanks and I dare say you're probably right, if there was money to be made in mis-identifying birds I'd be rich by now! Thanks for pointing that out |=)| Not too difficult to approach the Grouse TBH, took about 5 minutes slowly moving forward to get those.

It is a large area with variations in altitude, type of terrain, wet and dry etc. That's a good thing of course as it supports a diverse population of birds. Some from yesterday. Oystercatchers, Whimbrel, Red grouse chicks and Pied wagtail:

Lol, okay thanks, I know even less about butterfly I.D. than bird I.D., another snapper walking round told me it was a wall brown.

    Durham Birding

Thanks, that's appreciated. No, I'm not going to quit, I was just annoyed at myself for making a few mistakes recently. The Garden Warbler is still singing today so I'll look for him again when I get the chance. My garden is mature trees and shrubs, about 1/3 to 1/2 an acre and bordering onto...

Really? I give up! It flew from where the Garden warbler was singing so I assumed it was that. I think I'll just list them as bird 1, bird 2 etc from now on or maybe just not bother.

    Durham Birding

Thanks Michael I had a look down my garden today after hearing the Garden warbler I got the shot of on Saturday singing again. At first I couldn't see it but whilst looking I saw a couple of Spotted Flycatchers in an adjacent tree (1st 2 pics below). As I was about to pack up the Garden Warbler...

Garden Warbler Spotted a bird I couldn't I.D. in my garden today (no surprises there |=)|) and I managed one shot of it (700mm 100% crop) before it flew off. Two confirmations from the I.D. section tell me it's a Garden Warbler. Delighted to see and hear it, first one I've seen and in my garden...

Lol! No worries, I should just stick to taking pictures and stop trying to identify birds, I'm hopeless at it |=)| Thanks for the I.D. and the comment, I'll change the title on my Flickr page too.

^ Very nice shots. I had a walk over Hedleyhope Fell today. There was a Cuckoo calling from the trees half way up the hill but I couldn't see it. Managed a shot of this Mistle Thrush though:

Thanks. It was hard to get the shot. I waited about an hour for the bird I eventually saw to put in an appearance. Easy to hear but difficult to see as it stayed low on the dense reeds most of the time. You managed a nice clear shot with your bird.

    Durham Birding

Thanks Malcolm. I find it hard to tell the two apart, I put this down as a Sedge Warbler as it had a very varied song whereas I thought the Reed Warbler was more of a regular tune?
