Fair enough Owen - Eagle Owl is a real brute in flight and I’m interested to hear you’ve had Ural Owl before - one of my most wanted birds! Cheers Mike

An interesting read Owen - love the idea of the Malamute playing with the magpies! Eagle Owls and Long-eared Owls also migrate and they may be other possibilities for your big owl. Cheers Mike

Sounds like a terrific day at Gedalou Owen, especially after fining all the trashed habitat closer to home. Great pix of the Oriental Storks , and I love that first shot of the massed Baikal Teals. Could I ask if you have any pix of any of the sawbills - the 20 Scaly-sided Mergansers especially...

Sounds like migration is really kicking in Owen. Sounds like you need more visits to reservoirs that don't exist! Oystercatcher and Shelduck are both pretty rare down here - the shots of both are wonderful. What an honour to take one upside the head from a Saunders's Gull! I never knew they...

Hi Owen That small pond at Gedalou with all the ducks in their breeding finery sounds wonderful! Your expert guide ... not so much! I’m interested in the magpies demolishing the kestrel nest. Not something I’ve heard of previously. Cheers Mike

Definitely Wood sandpiper Owen. I think the feathers on the side of the breast have fluffed up over the point of the wing leaving that funny white spot. This bird is too spotty on the back from Common Sand, which is typically a duller green. Also its more elegant. Common Sandpipers are more...

Wonderful that the terns have increased - and even better if that's as a result of Govt public service announcements! Those baby Azure-wnged Magpies are just brilliant! Never reveal the secrets of your brilliance to your spouse! That little snippet really made me smile! Cheers Mike

Fantastic day Owen! Your geese are White-fronted - and gorgeous! there's something special for me about geese against a winter sky - and while Hong Kong is not likely to witness this anytime soon, I have just enjoyed a few thousand Snow and Ross's Geese, plus a handful of White-fronts in the...
