    Birding in Northants

John Finlayson I read on Twitter that John Finlayson has died. I never met him personally but I've communicated with him on the pages of BF in the past. I always find it sad when a birder passes away, even more so a local man.

    Birding in Northants

Perhaps they ought to lock them in there for a few days, preferably when it's nice and hot. The local council don't do themselves any favours, the money they must have made from parking when the Honey Buzzard was there a few years back didn't go to replacing the burnt-out hide. I had paid a...

    Birding in Northants

Thanks Mark, still there today but little else in the biting wind apart from Ruff, Shelduck, Little Egrets and a Swallow. I missed the Marsh Harrier.

    Birding in Northants

That's exactly what I was thinking when I planted the phragmites at the western end of the barrage in 1986 though I suspect breeding Bitterns & Marsh Harriers are still some time away. Not a migrant but I actually saw the singing Cetti's at Summerleys today from the Rotary Club hide while...

Hot-air...

    Birding in Northants

The Med Gull is still at Summerleys on the island with the Black-headeds if anyone's interested. I saw my first Swallow of the year there too and a Peregrine flew west putting the gulls up. Avocet at CHGP on the new lagoons so things are hotting up in the cold conditions! Here's a shot of this...

    Birding in Northants

It's good to have an active thread for birding in Northants, keep it up! I went to CHGP yesterday which was very quiet. A Little Egret was in the stream on the other side of the Bedford Road and a fox was wandering around the large roundabout in full view of the motorists. Yellowhammers are...
