Leupold Gold Ring HD 8x32 versus SV 8x32

I guess basic reading comprehension is not among whatever strong points you have. Nobody, in particular not me, is claiming these to be "Alpha Ass Kickers". If you happened to actually read my post here on the GR vs the SV, you would have seen I granted the point that Swarovski is likely the...

Leupold Gold Ring HD 8x32 versus SV 8x32

Bruce, sorry, don't want to come close to starting an argument here, but yours is a stance I have to reject as emphatically as you do ;). The Chinese are damn close to alpha and anyone with an objective viewpoint will tell you so. No, they are not as good as a Swaro, not yesterday, not today...

Leupold Gold Ring HD 8x32 versus SV 8x32

One thing that sort of fascinates me is how people will "fixate" on a brand. For instance, since the discussion is optical glass, you see Schott glass elevated to a nearly mystical status. This is particularly true on a certain Hunting Optics forum I post on occasionally. If it has "SCHOTT...

Leupold Gold Ring HD 8x32 versus SV 8x32

I had a GR 7/12x32 for a while. Actually two of them. The first one had some issued with the power change lever and Leupold replaced it with a new one the second time I sent it in. The 7x was a very nice, small 32 mm binocular. It pretty much sucked at 12x. Got fuzzy with distance real...

Leupold Gold Ring HD 8x32 versus SV 8x32

To each of course their own ;). I perhaps should have substituted "vast majority" for only. But the point still stands. They do not handle nearly as heavy as one might expect. There are some 30 oz binoculars that handle like 40 oz binoculars and then there are 30 oz binoculars that handle...

Leupold Gold Ring HD 8x32 versus SV 8x32

That was certainly part of it. Another aspect, unfortunately, was the fact that they were not German...everybody knows only Germans can build binoculars for that price ;). Remember that this dated to 2006 or thereabouts. Steve Ingraham's BVD review of the Gold Ring HD is spot on the money...

Leupold Gold Ring HD 8x32 versus SV 8x32

I hope that this will settle the issue. The Leupold Gold Ring was a joint venture between the Japanese firm Kamakura and Leupold. Leupold did ASSEMBLE some of the first ones in Beaverton, Oregon. But that is ALL they did...ASSEMBLE, using the pieces Kamakura sent them. Early on, Leupold...

Leupold Gold Ring HD 8x32 versus SV 8x32

As to the question posed by Gwen several posts ago. If you were to take the rubber armor off a McKinley and a Gold Ring HD I doubt ANYBODY would be able to tell the difference. I think most people will prefer the newer McKinley to the original. There is HUGE ergonomic difference. The optics...
