    Canon SX60HS in Action

Not sure what you're doing......turn the preview off and then when u want to view pictures just press the play button and scroll through them individually.....always worked for mine

    Canon SX60HS in Action

I honestly don't know! Moved to the 60 from the 40 (never liked the 50 because of the shockingly bad evf) and never had any problems with it from the off

    Canon SX60HS in Action

I always used 2x converter and usually at full zoom...never had any issues. BiF shots were always zoomed out slightly though

    Canon SX60HS in Action

What settings have you got for the 60? Can't understand why you're having such problems??
  5. birdboybowley

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Yeah, with the SX60 it will always choose too high an ISO...used to limit mine to 100 or 200 on a dull day! Given up now and gone full DSLR ;)

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Why not use the 2x converter on the SX60? Mine outdid my mate's 50 every time....so much so he bought a 60 too. Never had any trouble keeping the 60 still on a subject...even at max zoom - the button on the barrel is a great way for additional stabilization but don't move the camera away fron...

You'd be surprised how bad the higher ISO can make pics look on the 60 Roy. I'm glad at times I've still got my 'ol 40 too

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Not sure why everyone's unhappy with the IS on the 60. I'm having zero problems with it and I always shoot handheld - and the button on the barrel works wonders on distant stationary birds....don't try and move the camera whilst it's pushed in as then the image will bounce around!

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Yep, I think the single biggest thing you can do to this camera to improve it is to limit the ISO and then manually set it for the conditions as needs be

    Canon SX60HS in Action

I've limited my ISO to 800 in less than ideal conditions, but in sunny conditions I limit it to 100. Like today, put it on Auto to see what the camera would choose and surprise surprise it chose 800 even for a full-sun BiF shot against a blue sky. Manually put it down to 100 and the resulting...

Decided that Great-crested Grebes have frankly disgusting-looking feet and Mallards are actually quite beautiful.....and Coots, well, it's the attitude I love about 'em!

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Yes, everytime, unless your literally a few feet from the subject. I posted ages ago about the viewfinder image looking better when taking moon shots. Does the same for alot of BiF shots too...shame really, coz if the images looked that good then everyone would be happy (including the whiney...

Hey Marco Did the fix make any difference to your camera??

    Canon SX60HS in Action

I love it when 'boring' birds place themselves in interesting settings!

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Here's a few shots (none to write home about!) but shows the range and ability of the optical zoom with the 2x converter. Pretty impressive: pic 3 is visible in the middle of pic 1 and the boat is visible in pic 4

Forget how nice some of our common birds actually are!

Returns are no probs with DigitalRev for example - and the Canon warranty is an international one so not a problem either

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Here's a couple to show what the camera can do for getting purely a record shot at distance. The first was taken on full optical with 2x converter on. For a laugh, the second was in Auto mode with full digital zoom (260x) and it's actually not that bad!! I guess the Hawfinches were c100m...

Cheers Cal, They were all handheld and full optical zoom with the 2x converter on. I sometimes find the 1.6x gives better results, depending on light

Cheers Marco - look forward to reading your views on the fix Crazy - close, but it's a Little Grebe and our Whimbrel's different....depending on your taxonomic disposition! ;)

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Hey Marco - have you got the camera back yet? Here's some from Pagham today taken in actual sunshine......! All taken at full optical with 2x converter on. Whimbrel about 30ft, Goldeneye alot further!

Cheers Marco - interesting.....hope to see some pics with the new unit..... What does the optical unit actually do anyway??
  24. birdboybowley

    Canon SX60HS in Action

Ah, cheers for the update. Be interesting to see a) what they do to it and, more importantly, b) whether it makes a difference to the IQ!!
