Don't be fooled that IS or OS will solve all the problems with blur all 400 5.6 shooters know this because there is non.

As Roy quite rightly says good support is the doc ordered. You don't see many people hand holding 500 and 600 lenses for long stints, they use tripods.a lot of new togs could learn a lot from Roy. Me included.

Roy you make a lot of sense with your posts regarding pixel bleeding and shake. I found that when I first started shooting the 7d. The 1d3 is much more forgiving. I think the 1d4 will be the best way forward for iq and focus speed.

Must admit though the extra weight of these siggy lenses are easy to get used to , the monopod gets to see the light of day again.

I nearly always use A1 servo done me no harm.

The 1d cameras are only .3 more than a crop series camera excluding the 1DX.

So Jeff if could only choose one camera, would you choose the extra mp and crop sensor or IQ and larger sensor of the 1D3. I myself find the 1D3 a good worth horse despite its age. Wish I could afford the 1d4 but prices are still to high and the glass should always come first for best results.

Yes 7d2 Roy I would like one myself when I can, it offers so much more than the 1dmk3 but it hasn't been out a year yet so there's plenty of time. Incidentally I'm using the 100_400 mk1 at the moment so I'm listening to what peoples experience is with the 150_600 lenses.

Jeff, if I was you I would hang on and wait for prices to fall or grab a second hand one when they come up. I seen one on wex for £1300 ish.

I'd be happy with that Chris nice detail.

    New Sigma 150/600

hard to say chris the sigma is designed for the lens and fully compatible with the dock but the godwit shot is pretty special with a focal close to 750 @ F9.

    New Sigma 150/600

The images speak for themselves I would say. The build quality alone has me hooked for one and the dock is a very nice feature to set up the lens.

    New Sigma 150/600

Yes I've seen that one priced at £1739 or something I was following one from Watford so might be the srs one, I'm still a bit on the fence to be honest thinking sigma and getting used to extra weight or taking a hit on the wallet with the 100-400 IS ii.

    New Sigma 150/600

Should asked but where did you buy it from.
  16. Paul Jarvis

    New Sigma 150/600

Well done Jeff for making the jump it will be good to hear your views. So I take it that your keeping hold of the 400 for the time being while comparing with a view to sell.

    New Sigma 150/600

Agreed closer is always better, it's was good to see which lens they would pick up given a specific situation ie walking or in a hide.

    New Sigma 150/600

Wasn't too bad but I didn't think it really compared the 4 with a clear winner.

For those that may be interested there is a very thorough review of the 100-400 ii on (the digital picture.com) website. It compares some of its closest competition and comes out very well. Its an interesting read.

From what ive seen between both lenses there doesn't seem to be much in them. nice shrike shot.

    New Sigma 150/600

Couldn't put it better myself Jeff. I may have to wait till spring to decide when the weather improves and prices come down more and hope there are more shots to make a judgement on.

    New Sigma 150/600

I keep reading all your posts with great interest and Im with Paul Hert I just can't seem to find enough pics on the net to judge the lenses capabilities. The last link Isaac posted is great. This is my situation in a nut shell as is maybe some others. Im looking for a lens that has flexibility...

There are not many good days in the uk at the moment, very grey and damp. So it's hard for micheal to get out. I don't think the shots are soft The moorhen is very good. I agree that some other subjects would good to see as a comparison and some more bif shots.
