  1. La Terra Trema

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

Great Grey Shrike still present this evening. Spent some time atop of the tall tree between VC and dipping pond, before dropping into the bushes below. Last seen about 1810. Hopefully it will stick around for tomorrow! 1 Barn Owl, 1 Kestrel, 1 Stonechat and 2 Goldcrest also about.
  2. La Terra Trema

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

One Pectoral Sandpiper was still present (from East Hide) this evening, along with the Glossy Ibis, eleven Curlew Sandpiper and at least four Little Stint. It's depressing how quickly the nights are pulling in now! Good numbers of Black-tailed Godwit and Ruff were already starting to drop onto...
  3. La Terra Trema

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

Agree completely, Fred. I hate the things. Flying low over peoples gardens and plonking down wherever they like. One particular imbecile actually landed in the conservation area on the wet grassland a few months back.
  4. La Terra Trema

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

Our already wonderful Frampton Autumn got even better today, with an elusive but super rewarding Barred Warbler on the path to Tab's Head. Cracking find by Boy Wonder. A reserve first, I believe!

Hi Fred. John Badley hit 25 on Monday morning... http://www.lincsbirdclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=21102 Like you say, it's hard not to hit 20+ wader species at Frampton at the minute. Black-tailed Godwit and Dunlin numbers are going through the roof, particularly at high tide. Love...
  9. La Terra Trema

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

Work put paid to any hopes of a late dash to Covenham for the Terek Sandpiper. However, an hour or so at Frampton went some way to salving the wounds of that particular dagger through my heart. At least four Common Sandpiper were behind East Hide tonight. No sign of Temminck's Stint, but Little...

My feet are still aching now and my back has seized up. You must be a physical wreck, Chris!!! Typically/ annoyingly, our first Wood Sandpiper of the year turned up today... Slap bang in front of visitor centre! Also, popped to reservoir after VC closed - first bird I see over the water...
  11. La Terra Trema

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

Couple of year ticks this evening. Within minutes of arriving my first Swift of the year flew over my head. Soon after I located the Little Gull on the reedbed. The Spoonbill was still present this evening on South Scrape too, whilst the Garganey were suprisngly easy to pick up on the grassland...
  12. La Terra Trema

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

Saw my first Turtle Dove of the year as I arrived on the reserve this evening; in the hedgerow right near the entrance. Had another fleeting view as one flew into cover on the crossbank later in the evening. Not sure whether it was a second bird or the same one as before, but just standing there...

Lovely still evening of the reserve. Highlights were 3 Whooper Swan, 2 Corn Bunting, 1 Swallow and 1 Barn Owl. Plenty of Yellowhammer about too, as well as a few Pied Wagtail around the reservoir and a small flock of Linnet. Highlights on the reedbed and scrapes previous night included 2...

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

Hi Colin. The pair were showing really well around 17:45. They were tight in the corner of the reedbed when I first arrived, but eventually drifted out slap bang in front of the hide before drifting away again. Cracking looking birds. :t:
  15. La Terra Trema

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

Not quite the glorious weather promised by the BBC, but a nice enough day on the reserve nonetheless. Had hopes of finding an early Spring migrant kicking about, but (aside from the increasing numbers of Avocet) the birds of the day came in the more wintery forms of a lone Snow Bunting on the...

Smashing day on the reserve. Lots of regulars about, a handful of first time visitors and a coachload of good-humoured birders from Kingston-upon-Thames! Following my 44 species from the VC last week, Boy Wonder upped the ante with an impressive half century yesterday. Today we were both in VC...

So a Redpoll in the immediate vicinity of Dave Lee Travis would be a Hornemanns? o:D

  22. La Terra Trema

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

Glad that you enjoyed it, Stuart! :t: Had a raptor-tastic weekend on the reserve. A flying visit yesterday (Saturday) provided superb views of a stunning male Sparrowhawk feasting on an unfortunate Starling in the corner behind South Scrape. When I finally got up onto the seabank, a Marsh...

  24. La Terra Trema

    RSPB Frampton Marsh

Happy New Year everybody. A vile afternoon of driving rain and freezing winds curtailed my birding somewhat today, but an hour or so spent on the reserve still managed to produce a total of 46 species. Highlights amongst the huddled masses of Golden Plovers, Lapwing, Brent, Teal and Wigeon...

Latest update taken from Lincs Bird Club:- "Hi, Now that local flood warnings have been lifted, both reserves (Frampton and Frieston) will be open as usual today. Thanks, Simon."
