    For some time I've been convinced of great black-backed gulls near Aldi in downtown Redditch, but never had bins on me to confirm. This afternoon I was alerted by half a dozen lessers at AVL who suddenly took off in consternation. They were mobbing a larger gull. This had to be great. Lessers...

    I thought the highlight this afternoon would be three little egrets in front of the sailing club until... a hobby drifted over the visitor centre. The greylags have all gone and not many coots were in evidence. In fact most of the lake was pretty empty.

    Three shovelers were back this afternoon and one (maybe two) little egret. A grey wag down the river was a nice addition.

    Also off patch but close: a marsh tit calling in Walkwood Coppice this morning. Haven't had one in Worcestershire for ages.
