    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

My feelings entirely, Laurie. I got into an argument with a certain gentleman at a well known site when I dared say that a lot of bird photographers had no real knowledge of birds, and through a lack of experience were most likely to cause alarm and distress to the birds they were trying to...

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

The pic of the Golden-winged Warbler twitch reminds me of the good old days when it was just binoculars and Kowa scopes........no cameras taking up all the available space and no birders wearing designer labels.....well, apart from Mr Evans anyway :-)

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Adult Peregrine around Brierley Hill this morning. I watched from St Michaels churchyard as it chased the pigeons above the Chapel Street flats complex, went out over the Hawbush estate having a go at them over there, then flew back towards the flats.

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Incidentally, due to a few health problems I haven't been birding for quite a while. I am still keeping a casual watch around the Brierley Hill area on a day to day basis, mainly while I'm working. However after thirty good years of birding all over Britain and in Europe......Ive decided to...

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Green Woodpeckers have bred at a site in Brierley Hill town centre. I'd been watching the nest site for a while with adults carrying food to the nest. The birds can regularly be seen around Marsh park and St Michaels churchyard, and today three birds were present.

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Only been to Covenham reservoir once. I'd been to Grimsby a few years ago to see an American Robin and called in at Covenham later to see an American Wigeon. It wasn't a bad place, plenty of wildfowl. Trouble was most of the hundreds who went to see the Robin had the same idea and all turned up...

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Well, if the Terek Sandpiper at Covenham reservoir today is the one that was on the Camel estuary last week then a direct flighpath between the two would bring it through the West Mids.............it probably stopped off at Withymore and you missed it, Laurie :-O:-O Nothing new around Brierley...

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

A large bird of prey has just flown over Delph Road, Brierley Hill, heading towards Amblecote. I didnt see it but a man and a woman stopped me and asked me ifI'd seen it. They said it had straps and bells attached to its legs. Something for you to look out for.

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Is it me or are Whitethroats thin on the ground this year. Ive only had two.....one along the canal above the Merry Hill centre, and one at Belvide.

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Day off today so no birding Brierley Hill, instead it was my other regular patch, Belvide. Urban birding yesterday in Brierley Hill was reasonably quiet, just the usual Chiffchaffs, Blackcaps, Goldfinches and Mistle Thrushes. Several Coots and Moorhens nesting along the canal between the Delph...

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Things quietening down around Brierley Hill centre the past couple of days. Managed to do St Michaels churchyard and Marsh park today but supervision sent me to Merry Hell first thing. Walked back along the canal and had Whitethroat and Chiffchaff. Seems to be a lot more Blackbirds around the...

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Only Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps around Brierley Hill today, though I did catch a brief call of a Nuthatch in St Michaels churchyard this afternoon. Yesterday I had a walk over the Wrekin to see what migrants were passing over. Loads of Housemartins passing north, with even more ahead of a heavy...

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Nothing of note around Brierley Hill today apart from single Chiffchaff and Willow Warbler behind the college. I'm off for three days nows so no more coverage until Thursday when I'm on earlies.

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Wandered around Brierley Hill for a couple of hours this evening but the gropper wasn't singing. Nothing really of note anywhere around the town, or Marsh park, apart from a female Sparrowhawk. Haven't seen the Peregrines for a few weeks now, so I assume the Chapel Street flats weren't to...

    Withymoor - Amblecote, Stourbridge.....

Opposite side of the road to the college, and up a bit towards Asda, just before the single storey council building, the bird was in the bushes. Didn't see the bird but the reeling was loud, I'd heard it from the other side of the road.
