I was sat in my car having lunch today on the outskirts of Thetford when a Weasel appeared on the wall beside me with a shrew clamped firmly in it's jaws! We looked at each other and then it disappeared before poking it's head out further along the wall to check I was still there. This...

Disappointingly, there have been 4 dead Badgers over the past month along the A11 between Ketteringham and Spooner Row. I hope this doesn't represent too big a chunk of the local population. A bat sp. last night was feeding under the street lights on West End, Costessey, while I was on toad patrol!

After a 2 month absence, the otter was caught on the camera trap again last night at 11.20pm, though sadly the photos aren't really worth posting!

Swallow Aquatics in East Harling have Harvest Mice for sale! They are very cute and I'd love to see a wild one at some point too!

It would probably be more regular if I provided bigger fish and didn't keep disturbing it!!! Would like to catch up with one in the daytime tho. Text me if you get lucky again! Chris

Still at least one Hedgehog visiting my garden...

At the risk of boring people, disturbed the otter again last night at 1.45am, about 45mins after this photo was taken (the otter is looking into the pond). Not sure how many fish I have left!!! Chris

    Norfolk mammals

Finally managed a brief view of the otter in my garden last night when I disturbed it from the pond around 11.35pm. The big splash and the glimpse as it shot off down the garden was not quite what I had hoped for though! It had been around since 10.30ish, having left the garden once around...

Driving on a minor road near Old Buckenham yesterday when I saw what I thought was a group of escaped, brown and white baby rabbits sitting on the verge. As I got closer and they turned and shot back into the field I realised it was in fact a group of 4 or 5 baby Stoats!!! Not quite as cute as...

The hedgehog has been in my garden again recently and has a habit of getting itself trapped in the trap we set out for a few rats that have taken up residence at the end of the garden! Fortunately the hedgehog comes to no harm and it obviously thinks peanut butter is worth the wait until we get...

Another visit from the otter last night and a slightly different angle on the camera trap gave better results! Note the times of the photos, the first one being taken not long after I went to be and 2 hours before the second pic. The last photo showing the otter (it's tail only) was taken at...

    Norfolk mammals

The otter returned to my garden last night but, despite a frustrating sequence of photos, no clear images were captured on the camera trap. Arriving just before 2am, it was around for just over 15mins, with an interesting photo 2 hours later which appeared to be the otter (tho may not have...

I wonder if this is the same otter that was in my garden... :smoke:

    Norfolk mammals

I should probably point out that I used a camera trap so I haven't actually "seen" otter in my garden yet!!! It didn't return last night that I can tell but with a fair few fish still in the pond, maybe a repeat performance will yet happen...

Otter in the garden! Finally we have photographic proof of otter in the garden! The sparkly bits near the paving slabs are scales from the previous night! With at least a few fish left more images may follow...

    Norfolk mammals

After work today I found that my pond had been raided again last night or during the day, with lots of scales and bits of fin left in 4 places round the edge of the pond (I have photos which I may upload at a later date). I can't see how this could possibly be the result of a heron, therefore I...

Hmmm, everyone makes a rash decision from time to time Mark ;) Personally, I am grateful the photographer is now discouraging others from feeding the otters. Hopefully others will do likewise.

    Norfolk mammals

I had hoped the feeding of the otters would stay off of BF but 2 threads running with the news seems to make that highly unlikely. I fear that even negative comments about it will simply put the idea into the heads of others who are yet to visit, rather than discourage them. The initial...

Followed a very showy otter around the rivers of Thetford Town Centre today for just over 2 hours as it entertained the gathered crowds of photographers and locals. Chris

    Norfolk mammals

I agree Mark, I just requested that information didn't get more specific, although it wouldn't be too difficult for someone to track them down if they so desired. I heard an additional rumour that one had been kicked to death recently but again that is not confirmed. There are still plenty of...

    Norfolk mammals

I think we should be cautious about how much information is put in the public domain with regards to the Thetford otters. Yes, they are frequently seen from public footpaths in the town centre and many locals are aware of them. However, I have been told by a Thetford resident (and work...

    Norfolk mammals

Excellent views of an otter in Thetford today down to a few feet but sadly I didn't have my camera with me. However, I did manage the attached photo with my phone without using a zoom (photo is uncropped!). Chris

Finally connected with Otter in Thetford on Friday at dusk. Sadly, my attempts at a photo were hugely disappointing (to say the least) but hopefully I will have more luck next time... Chris

    Norfolk mammals

Yesterday morning there was a female Roe Deer and a fawn about half her size in the field beyond my garden at 6am. Chris
