Thanks Huwgo. Doubt I'll head back just for the Twite, but if I'm doing the rounds that way again in the next few weeks at least I now know where to focus my search. Cheers James Ps - FWIW saw nothing of any real note on my jaunt today (Pensarn's Snowbs eluded me too), just a few year ticks...

Thanks Ivan I know where you mean, it's one of the areas I've fruitlessly searched! Cheers James

Penrhyn Twite: Site info request! Hello all So I've included Penrhyn Bay several times recently on North Wales itineraries, dropping in to look for the Twite that's been hanging out there, and drawn a blank each time. I've never seen anyone else looking for it, nor have I definitively found...

Brilliant, cheers Richard, and Gronant Little Terns on Facebook if it comes to that. Return trip imminent methinks. James

Wouldn't like to say really. They could have moved locally, but if their reason for departure is failure of local food supply then they could have decamped to an entirely other part of the coast. Not sure when I'll get the chance to go looking again, as June through July is pretty packed with...

I didn't, but it's on the to do list. Back end of a full day with a seven year old & a five year old, both beginning to flag, and I didn't want to turn birding into a chore. Cheers James

Family day out today, nice sum plum Turnstone at Rhos-on-Sea, followed by another crack at the Gronant Little Terns in much better weather. Very disappointed to find the colony deserted. Heard a couple flying over, of which saw just the first, carrying a fish, but no good for showing to my two...

Gronant is a fair bit west of the lighthouse, and it sounds like you were east of it, so a different area than the one I visited the other day. I'll maybe give Talacre a go over the weekend. I wouldn't necessarily describe attaining a three figure count of Little Terns as "horribly wrong". The...

Ha! More luck than I had the other day then! Can you view the colony via Talacre or do you have to go in from the Presthaven side? Cheers James

I think the fence went up first week of May. Suspect that a visit when the weather's better could be fruitful. Try for the Grouse back end of the day, that's when my best views have been of late, real close to the road, just keep 'em peeled as you head over the moors. Cheers James

Just had a look on the Gronant Little Terns Facebook & Twitter, both of which manage to be utterly useless vis-a-vis any kind of information about whether there are actually any birds there or not. I'll try to check in there again next week some time if I get the chance, and I'll report back...

Just got back from Gronant. Couldn't find any Little Terns in very strong wind, Reed Buntings, Reed Warblers & Stonechats on the way out along the boardwalk, Ringed Plover on the beach and then a few Sand Martins over on the way back. We'll try again for the Terns later in the year in calmer...

Nice stroll up at World's End on Sunday, giving a new camera a run out. Plenty of Skylarks, Meadow Pipits, Whinchats etc, distant Cuckoo was heard only, and as we headed home we encountered a platoon of Black Grouse right by the road, all strutting about in parade order, quite spectacular! Also...

Pair of Pied Flycatcher at World's End on Saturday morning, right by (and indeed on) the road about half a k downstream of the ford. Couple of Whinchat and a few Wheatear up top, but not much else to be had in pretty crappy weather. James

Just back from a stroll round World's End. A few Black Grouse dotted about, decided to try a bit of phone-scoping. Ropey result attached! James

Just a small group of Pinkfeet late morning, around a dozen. Numbers built up a little as a few small groups flew in every few minutes, but the whole lot upped and offed once they reached around 70, so I upped and offed myself. James

Went picking Sloes down Sarn Lane in Caergwrle on Monday afternoon and had Hobby over as we walked home afterwards. I thought I'd missed that one for this year. Also had a Dipper singing from a shingle bank on the Alun just upstream on the bridge. Cheers James

Didn't see any prats this morning, and given how close to the road the Grebe can't see any need to cross the fence. Also one Pink-foot with the Greylags & Canadas (picked up by the chap who found the Grebe on Tuesday). Also Goosander over Caergwrle a few times recently, and Dipper from the...

Dipper on the Alun yesterday morning, by Fellows Lane between Hope & Caergwrle. Green Woodpecker calling there a few days ago. Whiethroats a little further upstream by Sarn Lane. James

So so. The Redstart is easily the best thing I've seen there, but my visits are sporadic, and usually more to get the boys out of the house to let off steam rather than birding. James
