One of the nicest guys I have met. Gutted to be honest, he was a very friendly knowledgeable guy who was always very helpful when I was starting out birding. RIP Chris

Went down again late today to see if the LSW was about. No sign but I did find the whinchat and Stonechat + water rails and 8 curlew sandys The whinchat was a good way, spotted by me for about a bloody minute - then vanished again :-C A few record shots of today.

Had a quick walk round yesterday hoping to see the Avocets :) Not a sausage on the wader front - I saw at least four Stonechats. Lots of rain during the night so not sure the levels will be great today.

Had a walk round the ski centre lakes today as muddleton was as per the norm muddy, so gave it a miss. Lots of tufties + 3 Goldeneye, 4 Oystercatchers and had some nice views of a kestrel hunting. Just nice getting out in the DRY

I had a quick walk round this afternoon, pretty muddy so do take your wellies if you go. Herons making lots of nests, two stonechat male and female, two reed buntings, Kingfisher on the stream, also had some nice views of a green woodie. Levels were very high, so not much other than the usual...

I very rarely wear wellies around Muddleton. Big waterproof boots with a non slip sole will be more than adequate now. Enjoy your visit.

Funny you should say that because as i was packing up I did notice a BOP flying towards me with something hanging from its talons. The light was pretty poor then so struggled to get a decent view onto it before it flew off.

I decided that I had to get out even though it was raining and horrid. Arrived about 2.30 to see no cars and no one on the reserve, just how I like it haha The only bit of mud was by the west side screen as levels were well up. Three dunlin, ringed plover and stonchat spotted. Made my way up to...

A couple of photos of my walk round this afternoon. I think even more fencing has gone up since my last visit. I will just have to get used to it as its my nearest birding place.

    RSPB Middleton Lakes

Yes the fencing is absolutely dreadful Tom - I have to agree with you. To me it has spoilt the whole reserve and made me start to look elsewhere for my birding now. The Swans look so sad staring out at you as if they are in a cage. :-C

Got myself up to the hide today with the camera. VERY impressive hide, very big with lots of nice chairs that will probably all end up on ebay :) Well I sat there for nearly two hours and did not see much at all. Few waders on the JW on my way back and a hobby near the car park. Just took this...
