Tice's Meadow and Tongham GP, Surrey

It's the summer and things have started cooling down bird wise. The water levels have dropped considerably but this has been a bonus for breeding Common Tern with about 25 pairs now on site. Insects are now at the fore and it would be great to see reports of Dragonflies and Butterflies...

Tice's Meadow and Tongham GP, Surrey

A great weekend which culminated in a walk with Surrey Bird Club. Highlights included 3 Kingfishers together in the stream, a Green Sandpiper, 2 Water Rails, a couple of Little Egrets and best of all 2 seperate Woodcocks flushed at different stretches of the stream. The strean appears to be...

A good day yesterday with a Dark-bellied Brent Goose seen flying out of the workings as I walked along the stream path. Minutes later we had 2 flocks of Golden Plover totaling 60 birds (22 and 48) both joining together and flying North. A small flock of Siskin/Lesser Redpoll was present and...

A putative Water Pipit was seen but we were unable...

18 or so Great-crested Newts found on site last Monday. This is great news and adds extra protection to the reserve. 4 Wheatear over the weekend but migration now appears to be tailing off.

A great weekend. Migrant birds are now very much in evidence with hirundines over the workings, LRPs on the shingle and warblers in the scrub. Was the Goshawk in Tice's Airspace? We've had them before this year but not over the meadow. Is this another case of 'birding by association'?

A 3 CY Caspian Gull was found by Dave Baker on Saturday, seen again by Graham King on Saturday, re-found by me on Sunday and again seen by John Hunt on Monday. This was an excellent find by Dave and a long overdue 'long' stayer - the previous ones only being seen once. Another red-letter day...

A very credible 63 species on site over the weekend and migration hasn't started yet; bodes well for the BioBlitz. Chiffchaffs are singing, Sand Martins and Swallows are hawking over the workings and the local Goshawks and Ravens are now displaying. The Common and Green Sandpipers and Snipe...
