Took a few shots of the male Red-winged Blackbirds who are now establishing breeding territories. Was using an old Nikon D40...I just can't seem to wear these old cameras...

Nikon 1 V1 with Celestron 80ED Spent some time this morning trying to get some shots of American Wigeon. They were quite wary and I couldn't get any closer than about 60 meters. Luckily I was using my astro scope which gives much better long distance results than I get with my spotting scope...

I was actually just walking along the paths on a local golf course. They have some ponds scattered around and I was looking to see if there were any waterfowl there. The deer there are used to people being around, but usually keep their distance. This one was feeding in this bed of weeds and I...

Went out this morning with the Nikon V1 and my Celestron C80ED refractor on a local golf course with some small ponds where ducks often hang out. They're usually very skiddish and won't allow a close approach. Using this combo I was able to get a few shots at around 150 feet distance of this...

Thanks, Cango. Their brilliant color is matched by a very spunky personality.

Out for a while this morning with the Nikon V1 and Celestron C80ED refractor before the wind picked up. Had a good run at a male Indigo Bunting who was too busy trading songs with another male to be bothered with me. The Indigo is probably the "bluest" of our blue birds in my area. Also a...

He was in great light, Cango, that helped a lot. I'll have to say that I have now tried bird photography with three or four different spotting scopes and a Nikkor 400mm prime with a 2X crop camera (GH1) and point and shoots and DSLR's and I have yet to find anything that will give me the kind of...

Thanks, Cango. The blackbird was farther away and I was forced into shooting over a small pond, which others have suggested may lead to additional disturbances in the atmosphere above the water. I was right on top of the female bluebird and she was posing very still without moving much. Rick

Out with the old 600mm Celestron C80ED and GSO 2X barlow in the marsh this morning. The male Red-winged Blackbirds have returned to stake out territories among the cattails. This one was taken from around 60 feet. The female Eastern Bluebird was around 30 feet. I've been testing various rigs on...

Nice work, Stefano. I sometimes use a Meade ETX-90 prime focus or occasionally with a 40mm eyepiece to digiscope with a point-and-shoot camera.

Eastern Bluebird (male) Even with a 2X converter these refractors can still generate some respectable IQ, especially if you're pretty close like this subject (10m). Celestron C80ED 600mm fl; f 7.5 refractor Kiron 2x teleconverter

Thanks for the comments. I do believe you're correct and I could have upped the shutter speed or lowered the ISO a bit, especially on the House Finch.

Nice and sharp. Love the combination of colors. I still have a couple of telenegs to test as soon as I find something to mount them in. Rick
