    Astroscope + DSLR = Gallery!

After further testing and shooting I would say the Celestron Ultima 2x is sharper in the center but the Meade Barlow is more even overall. That makes the Meade the better choice for birds, but the Celestron is better for astro. I have, however, been able to squeeze additional magnification out...

Finally had a nice day, so we combined a trip to the dentist in the afternoon with a little birding in the morning. Gave me a chance to try out the Meade 2x TeleXtender telecentric Barlow. Works very well. Quite bright and sharp to the edges. More here, mixed in with shots with the 300/4 Pro +...

Hi Tord, Here is the whole cheese! ;-) https://www.flickr.com/photos/42162009@N04/40148328875/in/album-72157642350397735/ With the Barlow I was still just able to fit the whole moon into the frame. Would have been impossible without the tracking mount.

    Astroscope + DSLR = Gallery!

I got an old EQ3 equatorial tracking mount for my telescope from my friend, so I was able to get this using a 2x Barlow between my E-M1 II and my 600mm triplet. It was cold and VERY windy, and I know I wouldn't have stood a chance with my normal tripod. Stack of about 60 images. The Barlow is...

Thanks, Jules. I find that the shadow gives it more three dimensionality. The full moon always looks so flat....

Partial lunar eclipse last night through the thick city air of Vienna. 600mm triplet + EC14 + Mark II, stack of 27 frames. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4349/36438687485_d5d964bf07_o.jpg Without stacking there would be even less detail....

Scheibenkleister! Des is zu koit! ;) Pichl-Kainisch? That is 800 meters in evevation. You would expect that there. We are just under 200 meters here. They had -8 on the Rax this morning.

Lovely weather we are having on this, the 19th of April... but it doesn't seem to bother some people. ;) Scope + EC-14, about 50 meters away. These are with the Canon 400 Temperature is hovering around +0.5°C. If it gets any colder, no apples this year...:-C

Well, my scope is back to its old tricks again!:t:B (: Here is from last night: https://c2.staticflickr.com/4/3851/33809375975_0c0f4b6175_o.jpg After that I was able to get a BiF shot. The bird was roughly over Berlin...o:)

Done. Much better and not SO hard to do. And here on Polaris Not sure about the positive-negative thing. That might apply to Newtonian scopes... don't know... Closeup of PolarisA-Ab According to my friend Tommy, those little "dents" are caused by a fleck of dust or something like that. Not...

Spent a good bit of the day making and testing an artificial star.;) The tricky part is making a really round pin hole about 0.1mm in diameter. Otherwise, it is just an LED and a 3 volt battery. Pretty much a must when it comes to fine tuning. The basic idea is to center the front and back...

    Astroscope + DSLR = Gallery!

I have discovered that my scope has lost its collimation.:-C Notice that the rings are no longer symmetrical and are fuzzy at the bottom. It results is shots like this of PolarisA-Ab It is still sort of sharp, but not really and I have to do the collimation. Tricky job! This is what my new...

Mark II with 400/5.6, resting my hand on the window sill. The window of my workshop overlooks the neighbors apple tree. If I darken the inside by closing the shutters etc, it is a great hide! These guys were only about 5-6 meters away. Meant to put them in the mFT thread... ;)

Fact is, the fence IS there and the Kestrel DID land on it, so it is in the end a picture of the bird in its environment. I don't know, something about it, the colors, the textures, the composition, the contrast between the galvanized steel and the feathers.... I just like it. I can't believe...

I don't mind it SOOOO much because I see the picture a little differently. You are absolutely right about mixing nature with non natural elements, couldn't agree more. I just find it a nice picture for what it is, not one compared to an ideal situation.

Waddya mean?... Very nice! Lovely colors, detail, and I like the composition. What did you take it with?

Kestrels are great to photograph if you can get both the light AND the wind more or less behind you. They will just hang there begging for you to take their picture. ;) I have been lucky a few times. Here is one from three years ago up in Tord's neck of the woods. Tord has also done quite well...

Anders, You can set the IS anyway you like, but it will have no effect. The camera gets the focal length from the lens unless it is a totally manual lens, like a scope.
