I don't think anyone doubts that Michael. However the law is the law regarding rare breeding birds. It is even criminal to take photographs of Little Terns at the breeding enclosure at Crimdon, I think thats a little silly but then thats the law.

Hi Michael, Its a LBBGull, on the primaries the spots are more evenly spaced on adult YLG and also the mantle shade is dark on this bird, just a little too dark for YLG which should be a similar shade to Common Gull. Hope this helps? Cheers,

Here we go again... Yet again I find myself defending myself against ill placed and childish comments made on this thread. 1. I was correct; it was not a Goshawk. 2. Steve embarrassed himself with comments such as "wrong again", Steve 'bigged' himself up as though he were definitely right...

For goodness sake all I wanted to do was post about a Wood Sandpiper at Lamesley, sorry folks but some have gone on incredibly immature and rather ridiculous. Please move on and forget about it, I already had! Cheers,

I believe Steve has been banned for a short while, I do not think he has totally left.

Rob, Its a public forum, which I am sure you are aware of. If I would like to comment on this thread I will do so freely. In this case my information may prove to be useful to some readers; if not then fine. Kind regards,

Rob, We're all a bit bored of your antics now... I have been very civil throughout the whole episode and I would suggest (like me) that you now move on. Kind regards,

Wood Sandpiper at Lamesley Water Meadows mid afternoon. Visible on most southerly pool and often disappears for short periods of time as it goes amongst the grass. Local Lapwings don't seem to like it that much. Cheers,

Presumably the same bird, ring visible on left leg. Frustrating as its right time of year for a true vagrant. Cheers,

Steve, I am sure you are aware that Gateshead forms part of the Durham recording area and Goshawks are rare breeding birds and heavily persecuted, your record (if it were a actually a Goshawk) would have been very significant and could hint towards the birds spreading further afield. As it is I...

Like I say Rob you clearly have issues with me so my reply to you and anyone else would be to not read my posts if you have issues with me. Kind regards,

Do you not think its because I am 20 years old and keen and people don't like my input because I am young? I mean its a bit childish isn't it, to say 'grown-up', but I passed that stage of having childish digs at others some years ago. If anyone else had said anything it would have just been...

The birds & wildlife of Gateshead

Comments aired on the Durham thread a couple of days ago I had no idea about, and indeed I don't particularly care. I can possibly guess the reason why my comments are not wanted and I think this whole latest escapade proves it. If people do not like my posts then the solution is simple; don't...

Steve, Ok then; it would appear I have struck a nerve. I get birds wrong all the time and have no shame in admitting I got the Hen Harrier wrong, but I never state I am always right about everything. Clearly the fact I questioned the bird in the first place has been eating away at you a bit; so...

The birds & wildlife of Gateshead

Hi Steve, I don't think the bird pictured is actually a Goshawk. It doesn't look like a female Goshawk and it isn't a juvenile (your shots are good enough to see the barring). The secondaries look quite heavily barred, the tail is square ended and it just doesn't give off that feel of Goshawk...

Hi June/All, The bird photographed is definitely a Harris Hawk and not a Black Kite.:t: Cheers,

I'll open the humble pie and get ready to eat it. No records of RLBuzzard ever getting through committees from me then LOL

The birds & wildlife of Gateshead

I would say it was a Hen Harrier, your first shot does show a more buzzard like appearance but your second shot leaves little doubt in my mind. Only seen a few RLB's in my short time (so far) birding but they are always so distinctive from both above and below. :t: RLB's show a pretty much full...

I saw the 2 Bean Geese after you left! I reckon they were over Gateshead when I saw them. ;) If its any consolation it wasn't good views of the birds? But was so ironic baring in mind we were talking about Bean Geese :-O Next you'll be getting Casp at Lamesley. :-O Did you see the Snow Bunts at...
