    The wing configuration was completely wrong for Heron and it was well in to level flight as I passed underneath it. I have looked at flying Common Crane pictures on the net and, whilst they are often depicted with their primaries fanned, I am now happy to add to my only other sighting in Germany...

    I use a Tamron AF 70-300 on a Nikon D80. It has taken some getting used too. I find that manual focus is needed at the higher magnification and I usually use it at about 250mm for greater sharpness.
