    It's interesting to see how numbers fluctuate throughout the day, late afternoon and little number of terns but 4 Roseate; 2 adults and 2 juveniles. Great to see, lovely birds.

    Hi Andrew, There has been 2 Common Cranes that seem to be on tour of Durham within the past month or so. So it is very likely your bird was a Crane. Sometimes Grey Heron do fly with their necks fully extended but that's often rare to see, I have only ever seen it on 1 or 2 occasions. If it was...

    I agree Adam that is Marsh Harrier. Not a Cbuzz or a Honey or a Black Kite so I guess that only leaves Marsh Harrier. Nice one!

    Lumley this evening Some nice birds! Migrants included Wheatear and Sand Martin. Also an impressive count of 140 Curlew and a Common Buzzard. Kestrel and Sparrowhawk nearby, but not the hoped for Osprey heading North.

    Osprey over Osprey heading S/SW over Lumley this morning at 09.55 (distant, no bins), also Swallow, and Chiffchaff. We do get Buzzards in the area but they don't come flying over the housing estates this time of year.;)

    Belated News 1 ad Caspian Gull on Rainton Meadows DWT a couple of weeks ago, observor is a superb gull watcher and the record will be genuine. With birds also getting seen in Teesside throughout the winter on a fairly regular basis this is all good news.:t:

    Mediterranean Gull ad winter Mediterranean Gull present amongst about 300c Black-headed Gulls this afternoon at Rainton Meadows DWT. Also 1st winter male Coues' Arctic Redpolls remains and is visiting the feeders and a very regular basis. There for most of the day. Video of Arctic Redpoll...

    Great Spotted Woodpecker, Mistle Thrush, and a flyover Sparrowhawk were the highlights seen around the University yesterday. The Woodpecker being a first for my on site. Does anyone know how common they are in the STyneside/Sunderland area?
