You do get Spot Fly's there as well. Are you sure it wasn't a Spot Fly?

I tried posting to this thread on the 18th April but it said that as the last reply was over 217 days old the thread could no longer accept replies. Obviously that was a glitch. On the 18th April it went well. All target birds seen, bar the reported pair of Mandarins that had been seen along...

Today I spent a few hours wandering around the forest from Dry Mills Lane car park and managed a few of my target species. I had a couple of Tree Pipit from the gate opposite the bench, two Pied Fly's plus I heard a possible seven others in their usual area. A Wood Warbler as you entered the...

I was there for a couple of hours from about 10.30am. I saw three Pied Fly's and heard two more then walked through the orchard and onto the track that goes on the right hand side of the pool and saw one more then heard one at the same time much further along that track. I struggled for...

Thanks Dick To be honest if they are there I would have thought they would be heard. Both species are quite vocal in the areas they go to, especially the Tree Pipits. They can be heard quite clearly from the path from Dry Mill Lane car park. John

Are there no Redstarts and Tree Pipits there. I haven't seen any reported and I was hoping to drive over to there to see them this weekend. John

I haven't been there yet this year but I have always seen the relevant birds in more or less the same spots each year. Also listening for their calls help so if you don't know their calls I advise you to try and find them out. You can't beat locating by call then tracking them down until you...

A brief explanation of the route to take from the Drymill Lane car park. Take the path under the bridge and after a few hundred yards you will come to a gate on your left with an open area. The Tree Pipits are in there. Once you have seen them carry on walking and about three hundred yards...

What a start to the day this morning. I arrived at the Drymill car park at 6am and by 6.10am I had already got Tree Pipit, which showed within 30 seconds of me reaching the area where they are. A short walk to Knowls Coppice and through the gate and within a minute I watched a Pied Fly shoot up...

That's one of the reasons we don't advertise their existence because as far as I am aware they are not monitored there. I remember a few years ago reporting one at another wood to RBA (I hadn't been birding that long) and they refused to mention it for the same reasons they wouldn't mention...

I went there last Saturday and got three out of the four quite easily . I heard a Redstart but try as I did I never found it after searching in all the regular places. I managed a couple of photos of two of the species. John

Thanks Brian Yes I know what you mean about the Pied Flys. In fact I haven't seen one there since 2008 at the Wyre Forest, although I have heard the odd one or two without finding them. John

Does anyone know if all the migrants are in yet. I saw a report of Wood Warbler there yesterday but nothing about Redstart, Pied Flycatcher and Tree Pipit. I was thinking off going there tomorrow but if they are not in yet I will go elsewhere. John
