Agree with you. I guess if there was a split or lump involved, IOC would have mentioned it though.

Preliminary update to eBird/Clements already available at Avibase shows all these will be implemented by them as well. I’m other words, apparently only WGAC-alignments.

Very interesting discussion on pronunciation of names! However, would it be possible to create a thread of its own for the matter? Easier to find and also not clog up this IOC update thread – a little off topic in my view.

Nice! But shouldn't Elseyornis also be moved to Charadrius?

eBird/Clements haven’t split them yet in their 2022 update. IOC probably has some inside info on the next upcoming update, that’s probably what they’re referring to. Just a guess though.

A few lumps maybe, but doubt a bloodbath. Unless there's fresh new research, there haven't been many lumps beyond incongruences between world lists. Among the ducks, the only real contenders are Tundra Bean Goose and Green-winged Teal. For the gulls, Australian Gull-billed Tern (no genetics) and...

Ml I agree it has a unique head pattern and keep my fingers crossed for a less bland name than Red- and Scarlet-breasted (in my book, scarlet is red, and there are a bunch of red-breasted woodpeckers...). I'd say "Red-shawled Woodpecker" is better. According to Wikipedia, "a simple item of...

I usually like to avoid monotypic genera, as they hide relationships. However, in this case I'm for generic splitting. These really feel different! A half way solution could be to merge Bluethroat and White-bellied Redstart, despite their long branches. Calls are similar, as is the tail pattern...

Yes, posted changes are alignment only. However, I expect novel changes as well, considering they cite Zhao 2023. For instance, their results show for Humblotia to be a Muscicapa, provide rationale for splitting Cercotrichas, place Leonardina, Heinrichia and some Vauriella together as a single...

Which makes it a weird move by IOC. I thought they were in the converging process, hence why warranted but novel (in the major checklists) changes are put on hold. At least that's what's been said why for instance Charadrius is not split up, despite strong support for it being VERY paraphyletic...
