    Those families were originally suggested in the Joseph et al 2012, but they don't seem to have been picked up by others. I do recognize both in my own classification.

    isn't there a known example of a guineafowl and a Turkey hybridizing? I know there are examples in mammals of members of different subfamilies hybridizing (Wolpins, which are hybrids of false killer whales and bottlenose dolphins). The physical inability to breed and bear offspring with another...

    I have no idea where the photos on OPUS are from, but IIRC there are birdforum members who have seen wild Kakapo. Apparently you can volunteer to do conservation work with the Kakapo and see them that way, although their is a wait list and it requires a substantial time commitment that the idle...

    SACC and Clements recently accepted the split of parrots into Psittacidae and Psittaculidae. Strigopidae has been accepted for awhile I think by most committees, but further splitting of Nestoridae may await action by New Zealand and Aussie researchers. I haven't seen action from anyone yet on...

    oof...yeah major taxonomic revision based on ONE GENE is not the way to go. Although it sounds like they may have been limited based on relying solely on museum specimens. Be nice to see how the inclusion of other genes and nuclear DNA effect the results
