So, the best solution is to treat hoffmannsi as subspecies if vocal differences are weak. Unless we raise transfasciatus at species level. Species taxonomy in my checklist is based on HBW but I think I will reduce the number of Dendrocolaptes species to 4

    Furnariidae

I really need to learn to read a figure because I don't understand how they can to determine that this branch is a species and this one is a subspecies when they are of equal distance. They treat juruanus as a separate species but not costaricensis which seems older. I need more explanation

Is Geobates Swainson, 1837, an available name, and if yes, what's its type species ? R. I. G. states that the binomial name Geobates brevicauda Swain. (current synonym?) is a nomen nudum. I've been split Geositta into two genera Geositta and Geobamon because I have a doubt about the...

Obviously What defines a genus now, homogeneity, morphological similarity, behaviour, common ancestor, divergence times, degree of relationships?

    Furnariidae

The Thripophaga/Cranioleuca/Limnoctites clade is very young (between 2,5/5,5 mya), I don't see the point of recognising so many genera (unlike the heterogeneous Asthenes, which is a very old lineage [~10 mya] with three distinct clade, and merit a generic split)
  18. Jim LeNomenclatoriste

    Furnariidae

My bad, not Megaxenops of course but Ancistrops
  19. Jim LeNomenclatoriste

    Furnariidae

I chose this option for the same reason given by Areta (divergence time) . Anyway, Dendroma has priority over Ancistrops
  20. Jim LeNomenclatoriste

    Furnariidae

But placing C. sulphurifera in Limnoctites risk to create a small heterogeneous genus The best option for me is the creation of a new genus (such as «Limnocerthia»), sister to Limnoctites. Despite their behavioral similarity, these species are very distinct.

    Furnariidae

Holy mess, I didn't think this story was so complicated. Whatever, I use this genus to avoid placing these two species in Megaxenops as Boyd suggests

    Furnariidae

Speaking of Furnariidae, I would like to know the status of genus Dendroma Swainson, 1837, which could be used for ''Philydor'' erythropterum and ''Philydor'' rufum , if it is available, valid or not at all.
