    Still lots of Speckled Woods at Whitburn CPK today,well into double figures also a couple of Red Admirals all starting to look a bit worse for wear though.

    Excellent selection of Dragonflies at Cowpen Bewley today, 2-3 Common Hawker, 2 Brown Hawker,Ruddy Darter,Common Darter,female Emperor,Common Blue and Emerald damselfly. Several Garyling with plenty of other Butterflies in the dunes at Seaton Snook.

    One probably 2 Southern Hawkers at Low Barns today.

    I'm reliably imformed that i saw one or two of these on saturday and Wingate was one of the places i was at so i would imagine its quite possible thats what you saw.

    A few more shots, also Ringlet,Meadow Brown and Small skipper etc everywhere we went.

    Went to Dormans pool and Cowpen Bewley then onto Wingate today highlights being 3 Grayling at Dormans,2 Four spot Chaser,2 Emperor, Emerald Damselfly and Comma at Cowpen and 12+ Marbled Whites (a first for me) and 4 Four Spot Chasers and a Broad Bodied Chaser at Wingate.

    Not quite Durham but managed to see my first Large Heaths and a Small Pearl Borderd Fritillery at Fenn Bog(somewhere in Yorkshire i believe) yesterday.

    Martin, Andrew and myself had a trip to Bishop Middleham quarry and Rainton Maedows today mainly looking for butterflies and we werent dissapointed with this selection.

    Martin found a Brimstone Butterfly in his garden at Roker today, anyone with access to the durham bird club forum can see a couple of photo's he managed to get.

    A nice selection of Butterflies around Dormans pool today including 4 Dingy Skippers.

    Photographed this Small copper in Trow quarry this morning plenty of other butterflies around today as well, Small Torts, Peacocks etc..

    You must have been reading my mind Peter i was just thinking of restarting this thread up. I saw my first Butterfly of the year last week a Small Tort near the SOL Metro station.

    It was quite a while ago but if i remember rightly my brother and I actually found it dead so maybe it had travelled a bit too far north at the time.

    I have seen the odd Poplar and Lime Hawk also a few Humming bird Hawks there are all pretty impressive, I'd love to see an Eyed Hawk or an Elephant hawk though.
