    Bird watching dalyan Turkey

It looks like the very pale tail may have looked like a white rump at distance. I've turned Marsh Harriers into all sorts of things in the past!

Agree, these photos and time suggest Marsh. Any more pics?

I think you will be too late for Black-headed certainly. Try contacting Brendan via Twitter (@Dalyanbirding) - he's out there at the moment and had White-throated Kingfisher at a couple of sites nearby also White Pelican. Also @MalkohaBrian is out there or has recently returned so both may...

For anyone going this summer White-throated Kingfisher can be seen and heard well from the last "platform" on the river just before the small footbridge over the ditch at the north end of the Dalyan river walk. Better still, walk further north about 50m along the pomegranate field and view...

I've lost the directions from Dalyan to the White-throated Robin site - can anyone point me in the direction of a report with directions?

One tip - the boat end of the beach is busy through the middle of the day with boat trips coming and going from other resorts, the bus/dolmus end is much quieter and has better birding!

Hi, Both Spring and Autumn would certainly increase the number and variety of birds, and in winter the lake holds more waterfowl plus Pygmy Cormorant, marsh terns pass through and raptors pass through too. The Shrike passage the two weeks in August last year was incredible. Very few of the...

    Bird watching dalyan Turkey

Spent a nice two weeks in Dalyan in July. Last year we visited in August and there were some differences. Dalyn is not a birders destination, it may be a stop off for some but it is a really good place to combine a (family) holiday with some nice birding. I didn't travel more than a few miles...

Cheers - that's what we did a couple of years ago, will try again in July, only managed to hear them at Eskikoy last year.

BW - how did you bird the W-b K site near Hamitkoy? Did you park at the bridge and walk towards the lake on the Koyceygiz side of the river?

The wetland at the end of the runway is fine to bird as long as you don't point scopes into the airport itself. The road runs down to the sea and is used by picnicing locals. Had Spur-winged Plover there the other year. Views of the pools are a bit hit and miss though, lacks a nice tower hide...

Were the Lesser's near a hill with some wooden/metal masts/pylons? We had some probables there a few year's ago but couldn't get good enough views to clinch id.

Nice - like the Tweet news feed - hopefully will be able to add some (rather hot!) sightings when we come in August...

    Bird watching dalyan Turkey

Hi - that's about what I thought - its been a few years since we have been. We have had some really good trips - and some not so good where the captain has needed too much persuasion that we are not interested in the hot springs - rather we are looking for "kush" (?). We used to know one...

Caunos used to be reliable, last time I went, c4 years ago we had one on the hillside to the right just beyond the entrance to the main Caunos site.
