Hi Tom, Are your Pale-legged LW singing or just calling? I'm interested because as you probably know, PLLW and Sakhalin LW are currently inseparable, apparently in the field. I would expect you to get a few Sakhalin through given location, and the ringing team may well have already trapped them...

Looks fabulous Tom, there should be a further surprise or two if it remains open.

Rather timely Tom, Terry posted an image of a Temminck's on the Birding Beijing FB page yesterday which shows the bare skin dink rather nicely - https://www.facebook.com/BirdingBeijing?fref=ts Happy to bow to the more experienced. I'm always looking for them in Hebei and recorded the odd bird...

Tough one Tom, and to be honest I could swing either way, basically down to being unclear about the shape of the bare skin portrayed in these images. If I had to say either way, I'd probably go with Great due to the images not showing the 'dink' or cutaway back toward the eye. Could be wrong.

Aren't they just amazing things Tom. You are right, I hadn't acknowledged the eastern distribution, just that something had happened up north to make them move. A few appearing out of normal range here in northern Europe also, though in perhaps expected locations. Fingers crossed for you Tom...

I would have thought, judging by the 'Snowy' invasion in the USA and just how far some of those birds have pushed south, that this would be a good year also for China based birders.

My error Guys, didn't look properly at the falcon!....:smoke: So three, have not seen Snowy Owl or Gyr... Yet Snowy Owl is on the Beidaihe list though, 16th December 1916.

Yes Tom, all of those should be on the cards, I've seen four of those in Beidaihe!

You mean less black (pale) upper tail coverts and a generally pale base to the lower mandible in RBF Terry, though not always the latter. Buff fringed greater coverts is a good feature as this warmth is not shown in RTF.

Hi Guys, These cetaceans are very interesting and I reckon there is a lot yet to learn. My gut reaction was also IPHD however, there's no visible dorsal fin? and the size, as suggested by Tom, about Beluga sized is way too big. The last couple of years, I with various members of my groups have...

Strange Tom! The Bush Warbler recording really reminds me of a Baikal BW but the images don't really match, the first very suggestive of an Acro, intrigued!

A very nice Bull-headed Tom! I haven't seen one for a few years now in Beidaihe or on the old breeding grounds at Old Peak where they seem to have vanished, for whatever reason. Wouldn't mind catching up with another one or two this spring though I suspect we'll probably draw another blank...
