Almost as rare as the grebe, a Partridge species was on the Rattlechain tip this morning (we have had both species in the past), a Kingfisher flew along the river on the Sheepwash side.

    sheepwash urban park

It's a long time since I've posted on this thread but think it's now time for an update. 64 species have been seen this year and recent highlights have included 2 Woodcock, 2 Snipe, singing Chiffchaff, Blackcap and Willow Warbler, 2 Goosander still and Wigeon. Best of all was a Treecreeper which...

    sheepwash urban park

Hi All, Yes I did my 2nd visit of the year on Sunday, enjoyed it but only saw about 20 species of birds and the jungle has taken over even more than my last visit in January, I'll have to buy me a chainsaw. A tip for anyone who wants to find a rarity at Sheepwash, go down there in October or...

Sheepwash UP pre 1985. Hi Gavin, thanks for the memories, it's hard to believe how time flies. I remember counting the Pied Wagtails coming into roost at Rose Lane Pool, I think the Bramblings roosted at the old Tividale sewage works which is now a housing estate. I can't recall the possible...

http://www.expressandstar.com/news/2014/08/23/200-geese-in-two-parks-killed-by-sandwell-council/ I see Ian Carroll of Sandwell Swanwatch is in the news again. Sandwell council have been culling the geese on various parks and say they plan to replace the geese with ornamental ducks! The mind...

Hi Gavin, I wondered if it was you (you've changed your log in name). I reckon the reports you produced were the best we had, I look forward to reading your posts. Geoff

    sheepwash urban park

In 2005 a pair of LRP stayed throughout the breeding season but no young were seen. In 2000 a pair bred on the Autobase and I think the last successful breeding on the park was way back in 1993. Geoff

Regarding the Goosander records, I haven't had a WMBC annual report since 2002 so don't know what the record count is, we did have a count of 46 in the year 2000. Geoff

    sheepwash urban park

Hi Mark, I had a walk over to the Rattlechain Tip with Dave on the 6/11 but no sign of any tree planting then, in fact I thought it was looking good for waders, so doesn't look good for the future. I recently emailed Solvay as A&W are now called asking if they could put some rafts on the pool...

    sheepwash urban park

Hi Mark, I think you will need to chop the trees down and clear the islands to get a Glossy Ibis, a flyover would be hard to prove. Geoff

I'd forgotten about that, still it would be nice to find some more. Geoff

It's hard to believe it's 17 years, I suppose I'll now have to find another first. Geoff

    sheepwash urban park

I did visit SUP yesterday but saw very little and got drenched in the heavy downpours. I noticed that British Rail have extended the ugly iron fencing onto the park and have fenced off the Long-eared Owl roosting site by Rose Lane Pool, I wonder if this was done with the permission of the...

    sheepwash urban park

Hi Martyn, I would say birds are choosing not to stop off at Sheepwash, however there would be an easy remedy, just remove the trees and scrub from the islands and edges around the Pumphouse Pool, however getting the council to allow it to happen is the difficult part. Geoff
