    The Highlands and Islands Thread

Red-necked Grebe averages just one or two records a year in the whole of Highland region, so pretty rare. Slavonian and Little Grebes are both regular at that site however.

It was just seen over two days though likely it had been there longer. It was just felt that it would be inappropriate to have any further people gathering at that very public location for obvious reasons. Lucky you were passing !!

Currently only one household/family are allowed in self catering accommodation anywhere in Scotland even in tier one areas such as Highland and not sure I can see this changing by Xmas. As it stands any non-essential travel across the border is illegal under updated restrictions last week so...

Funicular Cairngorm Update for anyone planning a visit that there are currently serious problems with the funicular railway to access Cairngorm. How long it will take to rectify is anybody's guess. Cracks have been found in the concrete supports which means severly reduced operating...

Cairngorm Worth noting Cairngorm Funicular railway will be closed from June 8th to July 8th for maintenance. Afraid it's a walk up if you want to see Dotterel or Ptarmigan!

My point was that the guided groups you mention only go to sites which have full public access anyway. The locations are hardly a secret.

    The Highlands and Islands Thread

They've been seen around the Highlands regularly for over 40 years. Am pretty sure there are several genuine birds still around! I've come across numerous sightings and photos by hill walkers/non-birders that have never made the bird news networks....met a guy one day on the west coast who asked...

Seems the debate still rages on as to which sightings are of a bird that escaped from a wildlife park and which are of the wild ones!

    The Highlands and Islands Thread

As far as I know the bird that escaped is still safely in it's pen at the Black Isle Wildlife Park. No evidence this is an escapee.
