You're right, they don't usually come too close, perhaps they don't like the breaking waves? Bit rough here still Scoz.

Ah! We had a break from it for a couple of hours over lunch time. Not been hit too badly by the weather where I am, but roundabout is suffering rather with flooding from the Isla and Tay rivers.

Goodness.... did they manage that during a break in the weather do you think?

Hi CWP you're fine in this one, or you could have posted in the Western Scotland one... no real rules on that LOL. I heard and saw my first Wood Warbler in the Knapdale Forest (in the 2010's). Then a few years ago, pre-covid got one along the banks of Loch Rannoch. Have never heard one on the...

I wonder if he's related to the one in my avatar. I digiscoped him when we were driving along the Findhorn road mmmm.... must have been back in the early 2000's. Came round a bend, and there he was sitting on top of a tree. Good job it's a quiet road LOL.

Yeah... thanks John, I'm OK thanks. Roll on the vaccines I say, we might get some degree of normality then.

Hi roslin and a warm welcome to you from all the Staff and Moderators. I look forward to hearing your news. All things Scottish can be found here. Also, keep an eye on threads titled something like Scottish Bashes; we try to meet up occasionally and they're always great fun. You'd be most...

You're welcome Stuart. I wonder, the two ferries are operated by the some company, maybe you can switch the booking. In fact you don't have to book for the small ferry. BTW the Skye page in The Opus, also has a Sky Birds link on it, though the article itself needs a lot of work doing on it.

Oh and if your're going via Oban-Craignure, did you know you could leave by Fishnish-Lochaline. A much quicker way to get to Skye.

Most of the info you need can be found in The Opus article for Mull. Check out the External Links at the bottom too... there's a link to the Mull Birds website, with latest sightings etc. Enjoy!

It's lovely to see you back Andy. All-white birds are pretty rare, though there's loads with varying amounts of white feathers. I'm really not sure if their life expectancy is reduced because of it.

And another Hummmmph!!! When we were there all those years ago, we heard about a white-billed on Loch na Keal, but a combination of bright sun, howling gale, rough water and a not too good scope, we just couldn't be positive that we were looking at it. A diver certainly but I wasn't prepared to...

Hummmmph!!! No, we won't be there overnight, sadly. Shame I didn't know about them when we stayed on Mull all those years ago.

Thanks David. That ferry doesn't seem to run until the end of June. In May, there's a daily ferry, which would give about 3ish hours (I think) on Coll; I'll have to study it a bit more. I think my brother and his wife would love this trip.

Heading to Oban in a couple of weeks. Are there any hidden gems in the area? We will, of course, have at least one trip over to Mull, and I'm hoping to get to the Treshnish Isles as well. I know it's a bit early for them yet, but I'm still missing Corncrake off my 'seen' list (heard the...

A lovely tour you've got coming. Have a look in Opus for some ideas: the Scottish ones are here - you really should try and get to Handa island, and perhaps out to Cape Wrath too, while you're at Durness. These will keep you occupied until other people pop in with ideas. But my other advice...

What's changed there, Ratal, to cause that? The RSPB have been there for yonks.
