Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

I thought that might be the case, I have family in Norfolk and they are well established on the Broads, I think it was in the 1980's when I first remember them, those African Geese(don't know their latin name) are also more common, no doubt they might spread around as well.

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Trip over the Cairn o'Mount in a howling gale, nothing seen at all, same on the return down the Netherly Road apart from corvids and a Herring Gull. Odd find in a pond of flood water not far from the Todhead lighthouse was a pair of Egyptian Geese.

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Had a run over the Cairn O'Mount, stopped on top and went for a walk in the forest, very hot 23 degrees and a strong wind, we saw a Red Kite on the way up and another on the way down, in the trees there was just a lot of Chaffinches and Coal Tits and the odd Robin, I was looking for Crossbills...

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Had a drive over the Cairn O'Mount to deepest darkest Aberdeenshire, up through Aboyne and up to the Glen Shee ski centre car park. We began in cold sunny conditions and got two Red Kites at the top of the Cairn O'Mount, but it went down hill from there literally and metaphorically, the weather...

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Had a trip over the Cairn O'mount to Aboyne today, on the hill top we were in the low cloud, so saw nothing, but on the decent and ascent there were large numbers of Thrushes, Redwings and Fieldfares in their hundreds, apparently there is a real cold front moving out of Russia towards us, also a...

Took some visitors to Stonehaven for an ice cream and a walk along the beach, a Red Throated Diver kept us company fishing very close to the shore, plenty of Herring and Black headed Gulls a few assorted Terns and a lone Shag in the bay on hot and sunny day.

You can add it if you don't mind Delia, yes it was very windy, but I carry(well actually my wife was lol) a tripod to get a steadier shot, I'm still not able to walk far, but managed down the cliff path to the Peregrines territory, 2 chicks apparently, but too small to see from the path yet.

Had a drive to Fowlsheugh, but it was raining when we got there, turned round and called in at St Cyrus on the way back, the Peregrines were on the wing, Ravens too. Fulmars on the cliffs and this obliging Stonechat sat for his picture. Click on the flickr link to watch the birdie(movie)...

It's a Canon C100 mkii movie camera, I still have my dslr's, but have wanted to try making short wildlife clips for a while now and took the plunge the other week, it uses the same lenses I already have, so that is a bonus.

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

To cut a long story short, I've been in hospital, had some major surgery which has put me out of action for a few weeks, so had a short drive to Gourdon harbour, just to sit by the water and test out my new movie camera. Just a short clip of some Herring Gulls having a paddle, very windy day...

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Prior to this week in isolation, me and my son did a couple of Munroes, carried a very heavy camera and lens up there to be rewarded in great views but zero wildlife, save 2 Meadow Pipits, the place was mobbed with walkers(that's what you get when the ski lift is running bringing folk up on...

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Had a trip up to Fowlesheugh today, couldn't get a parking place, it was mobbed, never seen that before in the week, went to St. Cyrus instead, no sign of the Peregrines, wardens think the nest has failed it seems. Got a couple of Linnets, Reed Buntings, Fulmars, Buzzard, Jackdaws and a Copper...

We had a run up to Cullen on the off chance the Orcas might still be around, only report we saw was that they were seen heading off towards Caithness. We did get to see plenty of bird life however, couple of Long Tailed Ducks along with Razorbills, Guillemot's, Eider, Shags and plenty of Gannets...

Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Just a heads up, a pod of Orca, 5 or 6 of them have been hanging around the coast, they were in Stonehaven on Friday evening and were sighted off Cullen today, we might have a drive up to see if we can find them tomorrow.

Ravens Ravens We were able to watch these birds for nearly an hour, watched the Eagles being mobbed by buzzard and ravens, which even at distance aided with the id, must admit now you say it the head does look prominent on the one chasing the grouse, could be a White Tail as you suggest. The...
