Wild in Aberdeen - City and Shire

Not sure if anyone is interested in up-close encounters with common birds but there's a Blackbird's nest (there's a sign, you can't miss it) in B&Q, outdoor garden bit in amongst the bamboo. I could see three maybe four chicks being fed just a few feet away.

That's good, it also comes with just over an acre of land I think, of course in today's metric system an acre means nothing to me but according to Google it's the same as an American football field. Which also means nothing to me but I'm pretty sure it can't be that different from a "soccer"...

Hi Joseph, I'm not certain but the RSPB volunteering on a nature reserve may count. http://www.rspb.org.uk/volunteering/about/about.asp "work experience towards a career in any field; CV enhancement" I don't know a specific contact though, you could maybe ask someone up at Strathbeg.

Well Muir of Dinnet is good for wintering wildfowl. Think I'll take a risk and go for Ptarmigan though, there's a guided walk that I'll join, I won't die at least...I hope :-O

Hmm...I do prefer to be warm, they should build a cafe at the summit of Cairn Gorm, would be nice. I'll go up in the summer, or maybe Ben Nevis. I'm sure I'll think of somewhere to go, maybe the Muir of Dinnet. What's the best car park? It looks good. EDIT: Muir of Dinnet, Glen Tanar or Forest...

I've got one trip out before Christmas, anywhere you'd recommend for Ptarmagan and other winter wonders? I could go a little outside Aberdeenshire but nowhere as far as Aviemore. Any ideas? Anyplace good for Kingfisher?
