Humm that lack of youngsters amongst the 16, it suprised and slightly worried me. They travel in family groups don't they, I hope there are plenty of juv's elsewhere and its not been a bad season.... Steph'

Sadly the Whoopers became more restless and vocal just after 3pm and at 3.25 they took off north, then after gaining height and turning over towards Crich Lane Woods they headed off being lost to view behind the wood. It was almost as if they had a discussion amongst themselves and then someone...

Welcome to the forum... I remember those Hertel and Reuss scope's, good they were in their time! The best thing to say about scopes I always find is that everyones choice is personal, I cannot recommend enough going to a good dealer somewhere and trying them out. I had my heart set on a...

There was NO doubt there was a Spotted Crake down Wyver Lane... where did that come from? I understood LGRE was just questioning the sighting Clive et al saw on Monday not the whole record. Unless it was a Sora (which it didn't look anything like by the way;)) it couldn't have been anything...

Clive, I know what you mean about doubting yourself, we all do it sometimes when people start questioning like Dave said, but as you say no mistaking that spotty's bill shape! A certain county recorder once accused a mate of mine of seeing a juv Water Rail when he reported a crake sp.... my mate...

Any way the Crake is good!! Record shots the name of the game so far though... going back when my batteries have charged I hope... Bit of crap video... http://youtu.be/NXCAeXlbqw0 Love the way crake's do that weird "dread run" behaviour, running like mad for no apparent reason... ATB Steph'

It is definitely possible, but the parking is extremely limited (4 cars maybe?) and the lane narrow... I parked OK this am but turning round was getting hard with only 4 cars there. A permit for the hide is available via the DWT offices at the mill (I think?) but to be honest the viewing is OK...

The Wood Warbler was still down Wyver Lane in the copse on the opposite side of the lane to the brick buildings till 7.40pm at least. It was mostly silent tonight and flicking around high in the canopy over the road. I managed one sad record shot in the fading awkward light! Steph'

Oooh that Waxwing makes me jealous, same as Dave I haven't seen one down Wyver Lane either, I'd really thought this year given that we had plenty in the main town they would have been seen more down there. Nice pic by the way! I got a tiny bit of video of the Bitterns but its not good. Foggy...

I arrived too late to see the Bittern in the sunshine but got excellent views later on... Record shot attached, hoping to get down again to try for better! Nice to see everyone this pm too, even some south Derbys interlopers! ATB Steph'

The Bittern showed again late pm.... Paul spotted it walking along the back edge of the pool about 15.45pm and I saw it cross a gap in the reeds shortly after, then after 16.00hrs it flew along the back edge of the pool and behind the island before dropping into the reeds just to the left. Got the Bittern tonight, flew across the water at 16.15pm and dropped in the reeds on the far side of the pool, I wonder if it was in the reeds in front of the hide but as I only got on it as it reached the other side and turned to drop in I'm not sure. Dan was standing next to me and...

Yup Dave, its almost certainly the same bird that was at Carsington a week or so ago. Its got that brown grey toned head with the obvious white areas around the eyes etc. Must admit beyond eliminating a full Ruddy Shelduck I didn't look at it that hard this pm when I called in on the way to...

Ooooops posted to the wrong thread LOL!!! Many apologies Dave, I wondered where my post had gone when I looked at the Derbyshire thread....... I'll delete it if I can! Always thought Black Stork would look good down Wyver though! I did wonder if the Little Egret at Carsi was the Wyver lane one...

Humm one step forward and at least one back by the looks of it..... I can see the point in "vole" friendly banks but a bit of both wouldn't hurt... I suppose those screens will cut down on the movement things will see and are kiddie friendly? At least we are not going to need pulling out of the...

A brief visit this PM down Wyver Lane produced the usual fare.... Teal numbers seemed a bit down with 64 birds present along with 4 Wigeon, 5 Shoveler (3 males 2 females), 47 Lapwings, 25 plus BHG and 22 Snipe.... still no Jack tho'! A single Water Rail showed very well in the corner of the...
