    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Had a Red Admiral y'day in Overstrand, and today there was a Peacock there too which was flying high up above the prom before it disappeared into the cliff top vegetation seemingly having just come in-off the sea. Simon

Mark Thought the above was quite self explanatory really. Just a thought but how about contributing something positive to one of the Norfolk threads for a change? Simon

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Purple Hairstreaks continue to show very well in Felbrigg Park. In addition to the ones John found on the western side of the lake, the one pictured below was one of two which were coming down to feed on Thistle heads on the eastern side of the lake this morning. Simon

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Rather strange sight to say the least today at Felbrigg when a 'large butterfly' flew past me which didn't immediately register. When 'it' landed I was shocked to see that it was infact a Ringlet and a Gatekeeper in apparent copulation! They moved from the grass up on to the brambles and then...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

White Admirals were showing well at Holkham today along the main track running west from the bottom of Lady Annes Drive. I saw about a dozen between the start of the track and Salts Hole coming down on to the brambles either side of the track, and with patience providing good photo...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Just for info I saw Wall near the radar station at Overstrand in August (pic attached) and I've a vague recollection of seeing one on the cliffs below Cromer GC too last summer so there are obviously a few about in the near vicinity to Cromer. Regards Simon

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Thanks James Amazingly having never seen one before, I managed to chance upon some more PH's today on the outskirts of Cromer! They were keeping to the tree canopy but you could get reasonable scope views of the underwings when they landed. Yes I'd say your Skipper is an Essex. The black...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Purple Hairstreak? Not seen one before but presume the attached pic is of a (worn) Purple Hairstreak which was by Felbrigg Lake yesterday? The underwing which I didn't get a pic of, as it was only there briefly before disappearing back up into the trees, had a white line parallel with the...
