    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Managed to miss the Silver-washed Frit at Holt by 20 minutes (don't ask!) after spending most of the morning staring at a buddleia with a scenic bog background. A Broad-bordered Bee Hawkmoth on said buddleia was some compensation though. At least 20+ Chalkhills very active at Warham Camp in...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Would I be wildly optimistic in thinking that a visit to Narborough fairly soon might yield Grizzled and Dingy Skipper? Or should I just go and lie down in a darkened room and re-emerge in a week or so?! 4 Orange tips this morning in a short circuit of Wolferton Triangle (TF62U) thanks Irene

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

It's purely a subjective judgement but I've hardly seen any Red Admirals this year locally in NW Norfolk, whereas last year I saw good numbers. Gatekeepers seem to be everywhere and small tort seem in higher numbers than last year. Not a single Holly Blue so far but I'm now seeing good numbers...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Many thanks Harassed Dad for taking the time to post that explanation - amazing and fascinating stuff. One more question if I may (sorry!), do they migrate over the sea at fairly high levels or low down? If the latter, it must be quite a sight if you're on the south coast and see waves...

    Norfolk Butterflies and Moths

Fascinating Painted Lady spectacle - and these may be silly questions but here goes: What triggers such numbers to migrate? Or is it the fact that such numbers are around that has triggered the migration through lack of enough food where they originate from? And, as someone may have mentioned...

Blakeney Point At least 20+ Painted Ladies between Halfway House and the Tearoom in just a few hours this afternoon (which was a good thing as there weren't many avian migrants about!). I noticed that the Painted Ladies were very pale in colouration. Irene
