    It's only belvide you need a permit for, aqualate is open access. The site near Worcester may be Upton warren? Only been there once years ago! Think it is a pretty good site though. Struggling to think of other local spots to recommend as I tend to do most my birding all over the country...

    Priorslee lake can be good, but the main thing there was winter gulls which seem to have abondend the site last 2 years, whixall moss and floods are good on occasion(ducks, winter raptors, occasional great grey shrike)but too far for most people from Telford and Shrewsbury to check on a regular...

    Great northern diver at chelmarsh reservoir, around 2pm it was near the sailing club, also black-necked grebe in the same area

    There were 2 waxwings still in centurion buisiness park til 1:15 when they flew off low north, another 5 probables seen from the car near the battlefields roundabout (in flight) so they are still in the area

    At least 5 quail calling again at childs ercall again on the disused airfield between 16:40 and 17:40 today, in the last barley field on the left of the track, just past the gate with the no tipping sign on it. Even got a flight view! A lifer for me! Birds seemed to be calling all over that...

    ringtail harrier(pres hen) along A5 just east of oswestry c10am, osprey at venus pool c11am and the black redstart still at titterstone clee around the radar station 1pm, with a male ring ouzel in the quarry there

    1 male pied flycatcher back at the wrekin this morning, near the halfway house

    The firecrest was showing very well this morning at the wrekin, c150m along the main track opposite the steep track with rocks in wire at the bottom, watched it for nearly 10 mins mainly below eye-level. Also a willow tit behind the reservoir (my first sighting here)

    2 caspian gulls at prioslee today, also at least 5 yellow-legged gulls. Didnt see the black-necked grebe tho to be honest didnt really look for it as spent most of my time trying to sort through the gulls!

    Had a look for the reported possible little crake this afternoon at hadley castle, didnt see it but had 2 water rails on the stretch of canal left of the bridge (towards the A442). Anybody know anymore details on the sightings?

    does anyone know what the future access plans to allscott/mire lake are? is it going to still be permit only or be made more public after the beet factory closing down?

    Probably a week or two too early for pied fly/wood warbler/redstart at the wrekin/ercall but with luck you could find lesser spotted woodpecker there and red kite is an outside possibility. Prioslee lake off j4 of the m54 can also be good (reliable-ish willow tits for example).
