Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Spent the day watching juvenile goldfinches being taught to eat from the sunflower hearts feeders last Saturday - they took a while to work it out and in the meantime begged from every nearby bird, including sparrows and blue tits!

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Hello back for a rare visit - must come by more often! Jealous of your holly blue, BFB, but I have had siskins (gone now I think) and an orange tip last week. The usual goldfinches and sparrows - less goldfinches this year though. The starlings don't seem to be using their nest from last...

Lovely to see those yellowhammers Jabberwocky, I haven't seen one for many years.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Just the usual suspects in my BGBW results, and very much appreciated they are too... but this morning I thought I saw a mouse out of the corner of my eye and then a wren hopped onto the arm of the garden chair right next to my patio doors and spent a few moments there, then off into my hedge...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Beautiful pics BFB, what is that on the tree below the nuthatch? Goldfinches with juveniles, sparrows, blue tit, coal tit and a magpie. Lots of red admirals here too last week, but today is wet and windy.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Can't count "mine" bongo, but I think at least that many are roosting in my bamboo and using the feeders throughout the day. Plenty of birds again today: Magpie Collared Dove Woodpigeon House sparrow Goldfinch Blue tit Great tit Long tailed tit (about 8 I think) Robin blackbird raiding party...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

To my old pair of birdfeeder poles I've added a home-made feeding station made of a tripod of branches, and put a branched log on the ground. Both have been used immediately. I'm feeding nyger, sunflower hearts, fatballs/suet blocks in hanging feeders, with peanuts, sunflower hearts and...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

I found feeding only sunflower hearts crazily expensive too bongofury. Fatballs are much cheaper! I haven't had redpolls since the two severe winters, and I've never had chaffinches - I'd love to see them in my garden.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

I'm in NW England too, NoobBirder - I fed sunflower hearts only for a few years, and that seemed to attract a wide range of birds including goldfinches, siskins and various tits. That's when the local sparrows adopted my bamboo as their roost as well. I find the goldfinches will eat nyger seed...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Hi again all, I've been notable by my very long absences but hope to change that - I've renewed my interest in birding this summer and have started visiting some reserves. I'm still a garden watcher though, and am enjoying a very busy feeding station again this year. Today I watched half a...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Hi again all, lovely to read of your visitors. Lots of juveniles on the feeders this week - 4 or 5 blue tits (enthusiastically begging from house sparrows as well as their parent!) same number of coal tits and a couple of goldfinch juveniles all tucking in to sunflower hearts, fatballs and...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Mr and Mrs Bullfinch today... Mr has been feeding on the bird table for a few days, and Mrs was watching him from the hedge this morning. :t: Haven't seen the wren again yet but I haven't really been watching as much as I'd like. Goldfinches are notable by their absence from my feeders but...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Morning all, I hope those in flood-hit areas of the UK are doing ok. We've escaped the worst of it all here although yesterday was so windy I thought I could feel the house shaking sometimes. I spotted a sparrow clinging to a stem of bamboo in my garden and it did a kind of fairground ride...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Morning all, must be lovely to see that Siskin Ken! I've had a week off so I went and got some sunflower hearts (normally only feeding nyger and fatballs at the moment) and a tub of mealworms to add to the feeding station and finally had the chance to settle down yesterday for a good day's...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Very happy to report blue tit, long tailed tit and sparrow juveniles making very good use of the fatball and peanut feeders. Goldfinch juveniles on the nyger seed too!

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

How lovely Ben, I'm very envious! I've just had a great treat - a visit from a greater spotted woodpecker! I have at times caught a glimpse of something disappearing over the hedge and thought it might be a woodpecker but this time I had a good minute or two of watching him or her on the...

I love chaffinches Ratal - I can't seem to attract them in my garden. I don't think there are many around locally either, as I love their song too and have only heard it once in the fifteen years I've lived here.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Thanks Bongo and BFB - those images are very helpful BFB and I'm really as sure as I can be that it was a mealy on colouring and markings :t: Sadly no images as I have a very cheap crummy camera and even worse photography skills! Anyone got swifts yet? I haven't seen or heard any so far.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

Hi all, long time no posting from me, but I've just seen a bird on my nyger seeds that I am thinking could have been a mealy redpoll. I'm not at all experienced and hardly ever see redpolls, but I've looked at hundreds of images to compare it, and it really looked more like a mealy than a...

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

No swifts yet for me - two beautiful male blackbirds are in dispute over my garden territory though. They seem to be putting up with each other most of the time, then occasionally they have a session where one will chase the other around quite closely, then switch so that the other chases...

Two long tailed tits here as well roger, first time I've ever seen them actually feed for any length of time - eating fatballs.

Very busy at the bird feeder today!

I've just been watching a lovely siskin here this morning CB! Eating Nyger seeds. No pic I'm afraid, I haven't got the skills. As I type there's a redpoll on the nyger and goldfinches going between nyger and sunflower hearts (I only put the latter out at weekends now as they go too fast for...
