Whinchat at the Hythe this evening after having no luck this morning. The Subalp was looking very tidy at Landguard at lunchtime.

    Essex Birding

No! No luck on the Wheatear front either, which is odd as places like Landguard seem to be dripping in them!

Tell me the Whinchats weren't at the Hythe this evening? I haven't had any Whinchat luck at the Hythe this year and as I got there this evening I got a call from the wife telling me to return home pronto so it would be one of the only evenings this year I haven't been there!

Hythe Lagoons tonight. 10 young folk walked from Rowhedge and waited patiently while I finished birding from the recently erected viewing screen. They then proceeded to clamber all over it for half an hour or so before heading back from whence they came. The birds didn't seem to mind though...

Ample parking at B&Q! Wivenhoe station has plenty of parking, can't remember how much it is there, I walk it from east Colchester down the trail. Lots of other on street parking facilities in Wivenhoe a few minutes walk away. Should not be a problem.

North west actually. Away from the station, past the new houses! If you reach the B&Q at the Hythe, you have gone to far.

I love twitter. Its a great way to communicate! I have picked up birds quicker than via the pager often as I actually bother to check it all day long.

Now I go birding with my 22 month old I know exactly what you mean. A young kid is not the ideal birding accessory apparently!

No problem. It would great if they would facilitate better access as they have at Alton Water for example but I can't see it happening any time soon. I dread the day somthing good fills my scope! Saying that I have never had anything there that would get people moving so I don't loose much...
