Hi Sniper, Thanks for the reply, I thought that may be the case. I understand there has been a backlog of submissions for the committee to be working through os that probably accounts for the delay. All the best

Does anybody know whether records for 2011/2012 have been published yet? I'm still waiting to hear back about a few records... Many thanks.

Myself and a few others checked the usual/likely spots last weekend without success, but that is not to say they aren't in the area. Most of the birds I've seen so far this winter have been feeding on Sorbus rather than Cotoneaster, so maybe see if you can find some with berries still on. Good luck!

Just a super quick note, I found a singing golden oriole at Hylands this afternoon. The best way to find it is to walk west along the south wood from the childrens playground to the crossroads. The bird was singing in this area. I did get a lo-fi sound recording on my phone which Ill put on the...

Decent footage Paul. Just for anybody local to Writtle, a friend of mine found a male ring ouzel at half 8 this evening, Ill be attempting to relocate it tomorrow. Seen by the church.

No sign of any cicconiformes this morning, though a couple of swifts, a fly over yellow wag, no less than 5 lesser 'throats and a pair of kingfisher were much more interesting! Now to find that pallid swift...

Could well be swallows, though swallow, swift or either martin I imagine is likely there. Interesting report of "2 egret spp" sitting on top of cattle on campus this afternoon, unfortunately they'd gone by the time I'd managed to find the location. Worth checking any cattle flocks (cows not...

A good variety of migrants at Abberton this afternoon, though on reflection the 70+ common terns that appeared over the reservoir over the course of half an hour ahead of a weather front were most likely arctic terns, forming part of the wider national influx. 5 swift mixed in with the...

Two male cuckoo engaging in territorial chasing along lawford lane in Writtle this evening was a nice sight of some fairly unusual behaviour, and a welcome distraction from the distinct lack of r'ouzels around, despite the national influx! A light passage of hirrundines was observed yesterday...

The first returning House martins of the year arrived this PM and were hunting over the horse stables at the college. Always very pleasant to see. I would have gotten better shots had I not fallen into a nettle patch...

Yes its a cuckoo, the prize is in the post! Sorry Andrew, I met another birder called Andrew whilst walking around Writtle this afternoon, and I assumed (incorrectly) that this was you.

Hi Andrew, Nice to meet you earlier, Ill probably be having an early morning look around the campus in the next couple of days if you would like to join me. Prizes will be given if anybody can actually tell what the bird in the picture is!

Report of a Cuckoo this am in Writtle, Ill be heading out to have a look for it this afternoon. Although its April 1st, several lecturers were touting this bird to appear in the first few days at College as an individual has been seen in the same area for the last 3 years. Would be interesting...

Just arrived back from yet another sunny afternoon spent watching the ibis, beautiful in this light. Unfortunately no sign of the Black'starts around campus again today, must have moved on. Worth keeping an eye open for red kite today, theres been a noticable movement of them along the east...

There were 2 black redstarts present on the Writtle college campus yesterday, but there was no sign this morning when I got round to having a look for them. Unfortunately they are/were present in an area with no general access, but if I manage to relocate them and anybody is interested in seeing...

Hi James, I may well see you up there as some friends and I will (hopefully) be celebrating handing in our dissertations with a few drinks and a view of the ibis. I havent really had much time for birding other than on my patch recently, but I imagine that the SEO's will have moved on now. Good...

Hi James, The site is situated North/South, so any time of the day is best, though by all accounts (and some personal experience) the bird is best looked for in the afternoon. I would recommend viewing from the Meads rather than the pub if you wish to photograph it, as it would appear the view...

Some great views of the ibis today, seemingly undeterred by the attention it recieved this afternoon. It would appear to be quite relaxed feeding on the pond, as I saw it take a few snails and a female stickleback at one point this afternoon. Cracking light for it today, would recommend anybody...
