we had them first thing Sunday (8.30 ish) before it started to rain - 50+Lesser and certainly 1 Mealy, maybe two as the light wasn't too clever. Also a Brambling, Yellowhammer and Reed Buntings - not bad for less than a mile from home!

Got the very obliging Redstart at Two Tree Island this morning then went down to look for the Glossy Ibis. I found that the path to the burnt out hide has been blocked off - there was a small pile of brush there on Sunday but this is now a HUGE pile of brush making it clear that there is no...

Yes he did confirm the new opening times. The road has now been tarmacked so is in much better condition. I don't know how true it is but I did hear that a resident stopped a birder doing about 30mph and complained that he was driving too fast as her children were playing in the road.........

I don't think it was anything to do with this, I heard it was to do with alleged inconsiderate behaviour from birders when the Stilts were there - in other words the residents didn't like having their peace disturbed by people driving up and down the road in the evenings. (Bit like me buying a...

The gate was padlocked about 8.30 yesterday morning. As events coordinator and point of contact for the local RSPB group I am annoyed that I wasn't officially told about this - I didn't know anything about it and I have the usual evening walk planned for a couple of Saturday's time - the old...

I always take Rainham as Essex - it has an RM postcode and an 01708 telephone number so that's good enough for me.

believe that was the year before last, they were nesting - or at least thinking about it, can't remember now - in a silver birch and then EWT promptly cut the tree down!

I have seen them on a regular basis there for the last few years. But I know loads of people who have never seen them there. The other Saturday we couldn't move for them, nut have been back 3 times since and not found them. Think they have a fairly large territory, we know someone who lives...

I had the same experience Sunday afternoon but decided it was a tree and didn't go looking for it. Will be back there again soon though as it's usually a good spot for LSW and nice and close to me!8-P

Whilst driving to work between Witham and Braintree I have had several teasing glimpses of a large raptor, not enough to positively ID it, especially driving and without bins. Finally it flew nicely over and in front of me this morning and, as I had suspected, Goshawk! It's a nicely wooded area...
