A really long wait for the Osprey this afternoon, me and Steve Halstead arrived at around 9am and were told it was last seen around 6am, so we were sure it would appear any minute. But a long 4 hours later, surely the longest period of daylight it hadn't been seen for on any day, after a...

Was on layer breton for ages today, saw the Osprey on three occasions in between it's disappearances, and was nice to see it fish. Also had Buzzard, Marsh Harrier, Kestrel, Hobby, juvenile Little Ringed Plover, Common Sandpiper, Ruff, Yellow Wagtails and more Egyptian Geese than I can ever...

Just had a Med Gull amongst the Black-headeds from my bedroom window and then the garden where I took the pic from. I'll be paying more attention from now on.

Couple of record shots from Abberton Reservoir today. Black Tern and Red Kite, not bad finds on a day where I thought I'd see nothing.

Me and Mr Halstead just created an Essex Birdwatching facebook group. There is already a Birding in Essex group which I was in but it seems to have lost it's meaning and I wanted to have a group where Essex wildlife could be discussed and shared without a picture of a Cattle Egret from Africa...

Good day at Abberton, didn't know Bill Oddie was going to be there so that was a nice surprise. Was awesome to see Sir David too. 3 Little Ringed Plovers and a Ringed Plover off LDH Causeway, Cuckoo and a Yellow Wagtail.

I always thought that as the water level dropped during summer and autumn that the island will still become exposed and that the "natural edges" will become more exposed and inviting to waders. See pic I managed to find below which is a few years old. #2 Suggests several islands but I don't know...

This event is hosted by a Essex and Suffolk Water to celebrate of the completion of all the work they've been doing rather than the centre or reserve. They had a previous opening day for the centre with Michaela Strachan.

I may be able to get behind the scenes at Abberton but sadly there's no ticket vault to break into. Wonder if Mr Attenborough accepts bribes? I have a single ticket that I'll reluctantly let go on any bids upwards of a million pounds.

Got lucky with a Cuckoo from layer breton causeway today with Steve Halstead, nice Nightingale singing at the same time too. Also had a group of around 40 odd Swifts high up over the centre during the cloudier parts of the day, Willow Warbler and Nightingale singing down the old road. Heybridge...

There was more than one sitting where you said while I was there, was luckily enough to get amazing views through someone's scope (best scope I've ever looked through), didn't help that overhead planes kept putting them up.

Arctic Terns at Abberton today, a shameful lifer for me. First Hobby of the year for me from the centre followed by three more at once on Layer Breton Causeway! Nightingale singing and Grasshopper Warbler heard briefly also.

Missed most of the things at Abberton yesterday, too busy volunteering, but one the GWEs flew over the centre at the right time.
