Hi Steve, not sure if you have an Aldi store near you, but they have an offer on bird food starting tomorrow. http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/offers_week43Sunday10.htm?WT.z_src=main Think I'll be investing in some more feeders :t:

Cheers Seggs, The only reason I walked through the park is because its free to park down there rather than the penny a minute town centre car park (skinflint ;)) , thought I'd check for Pochard then had one of those "had on a minute thats an Egyptian Goose" moment (as you do :-O) Given that...

Had to do some errands down Shields this morning and very surprised to find an Egyptian Goose on the boating lake, South Marine Park. Bird was quite wary, no rings and certainly capable of flight as I walked passed it flew from the side of the lake and onto the water. Turning up everywhere these...

Hi Mark, Although it was quite misty I had pretty good views and I definately had them down as the European race A.a.albifrons. They just weren't dark enough to be Greenland in my view. There's been a couple of photographs uploaded to Birdguides today of W-f Geese in Fife and these are...

Thanks Martin, Do you mean the north-west corner? I checked this area from the bridge a couple of times but had a feeling birds were hiding around the corner. The WF & Greylag Geese were in the field just east of the reservoir, I only checked them to find the reported Pink-feet but found...

Hi Martin, I was also at Hurworth Burn this morning but despite a lot of searching I failed to see the Smew, whereabouts did you see them out of curiosity? I did manage to see two drake Goosander, 10 Goldeneye, Pochard, Shelduck, Wigeon etc but best of all two White-fronted Geese in with the...

Hi All, Looks like the WWWT feeding station is to receive a mid-winter make-over after all, not sure about the timing but..... http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit-us/washington/wildlife-sightings/disturbance-at-hawthorn-wood-feeding-station

Hi Adam/All, Got reasonably good views of two Water Rail in a flooded field on the approach to Far Pasture hide yesterday. Nothing seen from the hide as everything frozen solid. If your thinking of visiting this week I would'nt try driving down to the hide, the snow was a good 6-8 inches deep...

Hi Dougie, always glad to contribute when folks need assistance :t: The feeding station hide at the moment looks like a cross between the old hide and the temporary screen if that makes sense, its got some cover from the elements and a bench but its easy to flush the birds as you enter. I'm not...

Hi Pete/All, I was at WWWT on Sunday, Wader Lake was virtually completely frozen but the Reservoir (between 'Little Scotland' and Hawthorn Wood feeding station) was totally ice-free and contained Canada Geese, Gadwall, Shelduck, Pochard, Tufted Duck, Mallard & Teal, presumably some of these had...

Hi Derek, Dunlin most likely, I was in the same hide earlier in the day and had 8 Dunlin feeding quite close to the hide as well as Common Sandpiper & Greenshank. There was a Little Stint around as well but was proving rather elusive!

No Chance Steve, birding takes up most of my spare time! :t: At least the Tornado is what most people would call a proper train, personally I would rather watch a Tornado aircraft, though years of going to airshows eventually dulls the hearing....what? :-O

Hi Dougie/All, The Wood Sandpiper was seen at Lamesley Church Pool NZ253582, best viewed from the road that goes over the East Coast Mainline just North of the Tyne Marshalling Yard, the pool is on the left behind the farm. You sometimes get the unusual combination of train spotters looking one...

Exocet's Hi Steve, Dougie and everyone on the South Tyneside Forum. My last two visits to Washington WWT (Sat.11th & Tue.14th April) have produced only three Avocet's. The pair were chasing the single bird around and I wonder if they think wader lake isn't big enough for any other's. They...

Hi Davey, Depends on what your after really, activity at the feeding station has started to die down as birds establish territories but on the other hand wader lake is picking up now as breeding birds return i.e. Shelduck, Oystercatcher, Grey Heron, Geese, LBB Gull, though no sign yet of Avocet...

Good to see you Steve, I caught up with a small (10-12) group of Siskin along the River path near the picnic shelter, apart from that Shelduck numbers now over forty and building daily. I see what you mean regarding the sightings board now replaced with a printed sheet with all the bird species...

Hi Steve, that's a difficult question, the strange thing is the sightings page on the website is frequently updated, to me it would be a better idea to just print this off and pin it to a notice board rather than bother with a marker pen, but of course info can be out of date the minute it's...
