I heard you have had to restrict your birding to a mere 1000 miles a week because money is so tight.

Unless I am mistaken one of the reasons this thread was started was because some people became disallusioned with the Durham thread and the hostility and heated discussions etc that became pretty evident on there. To begin with the Tyneside thread seemed to offer an alternative - a friendly...

Yes you are a typical birdwatcher who has to put no effort in - walk up and spot the bird straight away. If only getting photos was so easy ;) ;) ;) BTW - I never spotted a nuthatch in amongst the mallards and swans ;)

The guy with the video is called Paul btw. Anyway - 3pmish female mandarin emerged from the creek and did exactly as the male did coming almost to touching distance feeding amongst the mallards and swans. The male had by them gone across to perch on the cormorant logs. We were leaving as...

This is why I rarely post pictures John because they all copy my shots ;) ;) A flock of about a dozen whoopers took off from the lake yesterday and after they had gone scuzz and I looked at each others pictures - we had picked the same bird out of the crowd to photograph so had pretty much an...

Why not write a book and get the film rights too while you're on. Enough is enough. If anyone is looking for negative publicity towards newcomers taking up bird watching as a hobby and this (once fun) thread then just scan through the last few pages. I think it's back to the Durham thread for me.

Regardless of the rights and wrongs, the ins and outs - if you are given information and asked not to share it then you don't. It's called being trustworthy - seems a long forgotten trait.

Conditions were about average for our photography - you know - typical NE Daylight settings - ISO 800, F5.6 at 1/8th :t: The 70-300VR proved more than helpful even with the front element jammed up against the window.

Yes I have a number of tree stumps in the garden which I have drilled and I wedge a peanut in each hole. Taken 3 years to attract a GSW though (that we have noticed) Normally it's just a quick look into the garden when making coffee or something but when I was housebound for a month I spent lot...

We get odd visits from a female but today was the first time it has caught and fed in the garden - didn't see the kill but prey was one on the 30+ collared doves that visit. As per normal the sphawk visits always coincide with crap weather and the need to shoot through the kitchen window. We...

Didn't know Bruce Forsythe was a twitcher - higher, higher, lower, lower. Just had a thought - imagine the Chuckle brothers sitting at opposite ends of a hide when an owl flew past - "To me, to you, to wit to woo"

I took some crap ones too. (Mines a posh bird cos it uses a straw) The way the bird has it's leg lifted I think it must have been a follow through

One photo I missed out on of the rails at the bogs was a pair mating. Colin (Wilson) told me that he watched a male pick up peanuts and give them to a female three times - she then let him have his way (in full view too) Never worked with my wife though :-O
