Lesser Whitethroat has a brilliant rattle like call to it. Listen for that if you get the chance next time. Hope that is of some help. Cheers,

Iceland Gull Adult present this afternoon, this time close! It then got chased (as video shows) and went to rest on South Pier. A really smart bird, no doubt the returner. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaUAoHnDA5Y Video is hardly Spielberg's work, but thought I'd post it anyway.

They do both, but in winter they usually join in with tit flocks where Treecreeper can often be seen as well.

Yellow Wagtail at Boldon Flats NR this afternoon. Not sure if this is of any interest to the locals? Forgive my ignorance of the area. Wryneck showed really well and good to catch up with Seggs and Peter. Cheers,

May be a silly suggestion but how about Grey Partridge? They do have a short raspy call.

Nope, they do still occur at this time of year. I had a large flock over Hansterley about a week and a half ago, they are starting to move off now though and will all be gone shortly. Cheers,

They have been recorded in Durham yeah, but they are a scarce passage migrant. Some may even argue that they are rare in Durham rather than just scarce.

Corncrake, but its still early for that species.

Well it is windy out there, so clearly even Waxwings need a bit of rest-bite out of the cold;)

:-O I am sure Steve wouldn't have minded using him as an example. The point I was trying to get across is that you can be a very dedicated local patcher but at the same time do other birding. Pretty much everyone I know does. Tengmalm's would get Steve down to Cornwall I reckon :smoke::-O

I don't think there is any real set definition of what a local patch birder is. A few friends of mine are dedicated local patcher but also enjoy other kinds of birding such as twitching, birding abroad, etc. I happen to know Mr Evans twitched the Sora in Nottinghamshire back in 2008!:eek!: I...

For whats its worth...... When I hoy'd my toys back into my pram a month or so ago and decided not to leave BirdForum I said I wouldn't get involved in any more discussions certainly regarding shooting. Means its really large, the server cannot handle such a large file to be posted on BirdForum. Mainly the save space for other users to submit photos, comments. Basically all you need to do is crop the photo a little bit and that should alter the size until it reaches the necessary requirements. :t:

Its difficult to say, it looks darker than any Willow or Marsh Tit's I have ever seen. I usually use call to separate Marsh and Willow Tits. What is the most common of the 2 at this site, do you know?:t:
