    7x42 Ultravid

Well I don’t know about the specifics of binocular focus mechanisms, but a titanium rifle action will generally use stainless steel for the bolt locking lugs to prevent galling; and the ultra smooth gears in my custom Japanese spinning reels use C6191 marine bronze for the gears when other...

    Noctivids / Geovids

I think it depends which model you are comparing. I was underwhelmed by the 10x42 HD-B, but I tried the 8x56 HD-B alongside my 10x50 SV for over a week in all kinds of different terrain and light before finally deciding to make the switch and I haven't once regretted the decision.

Leica Geovid HDB 3000 10x42 - Great Electronics Sketchy Optics

I was very impressed by the image quality of the 8x42 EL Range. Had it offered some form of ballistics compensation calculator, I’m sure I would have bought it. I disagree about the focus adjustment though... however, without the ballistics correction display, unless you memorise your...

Your pick, best bino harness you came to?

Its not strictly speaking a harness, but I use the Swazi bino beret - works well and does ease some pressure off the neck while offering some welcome protection.

    Trinovid 7x35

Haha! No, I haven’t. I have had them in heavy rain, but in the past 20 years neither of the two Swarovskis ELs or the Leica Geovid that I have owned have been affected by heavy rain. Before that my grandfather’s old porros for instance just used to sit inside my jacket if it rained. My half...

    Trinovid 7x35

I’d take a Geovid if hunting. I’d definitely choose something waterproof on a boat. I might well choose something larger like a 42/50mm as a specialist bird/wildlife binocular. But the trinovid 7x35 sounds ideal for a lot of general recreational uses...

    Why two objective lenses?

Seeing Swarovski launch their latest BTX eyepiece module for their telescopes made me wonder why binoculars are made with two objective lenses? A single objective lens could be larger, yet combined with two eyepieces or ease of viewing. Might this be a way of addressing some of the weaknesses...

Leica Geovid HDR Type 403 vs. Geovid HD-B 2200's?

As far as I'm aware, the only difference is in the electronics. There are very few test reviews which focus on optical characteristics - most focus on the rangefinding capabilities. For what its worth (from my limited experience), the optical performance/characteristics of Swarovski EL Range...

Should i Buy leica or Swarovski ?

I'm not so sure when it comes to rangefinder binoculars. It really boils down to this: Get the Leica HD-B if you want a rangefinder with ballistics solver... Get the Swarovski (or Leica HD-R) if you just want the rangefinder... (bearing in mind that any new Swarovski will surely (no idea when)...

Should i Buy leica or Swarovski ?

I have the 8x56 Leica. In my opinion it offers the best view of the 3 Leica models, but I'll concede that the field of view is a bit narrow. I'd say that the integrated ballistics function is a plus, but I think the glass on the 8x42 Swarovski is better (certainly brighter) than the Leica 8x42...
