83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

The P900 is awesome for birding, I love mine. Here is a video I just uploaded , without any other audio or editing so that you can see the VR and the zoom noise. I have bad lungs and you can hear that also !! I do not have steady hands and these shots are all handheld ...

    Which monocular?

take a look at the MInox "minoscope" its a 8x25 monocular, small, lightweight, great optics, but it has something that stands out from the crowd, it is a "microscope per say.." it allows you to focus as close as .30 mt , so you can view insects, flowers, snakes, whatever is close to you... quite...

Best Superzoom (Bridge Cam) for Bird & Wildlife Photography?

Take a look at the Nikon P900, at least rent it so that you know if the small sensor is okay with you, this camera has 24-2000mm optical in a fantastic zoom which has a great stabilizer , video is awesome but not 4k , it has an articulated screen which is great for difficult angles and the...

New Canon 12x36 is lll & 10x30 is ll

I hope that the new versions improve a major issue that occured with both of my canon binoculars: rubber coating "stickiness" it got very uncomfortable and it was even staining clothing, etc. in one set (the smaller 8x ones) I tried to remove with chemicals and blade, it looks like crap but is...

83x anyone? The new Nikon P900

hello everyone, very happy with my new P900, many times we do not notice the ridiculous shutter speeds that we try to use and expect clear photos, at 2000 mm one should use 1/2000 shutter speed and yet, with this camera I have used super slow shutter speeds for the focal length with good...

Nikon 1 V3 or similar - good birdphoto camera?

The Nikon 1 V3 is an awesome modular ultra fast camera, coupled with the 70-300mm cx lens it makes it a perfect birding setup that is light weight, super fast (up to 60 fps), you can do video and photos at the same time uninterrupted, fast focusing and response. I just bought also the Nikon...

a few photos from Rio Santiago

Hello from Honduras... I decided to go "light" and to shoot with my all in one zoom camera (Sony DSC-HX400), quite impressed with the little camera, it sure was liberating to go lightweight.... Rio Santiago never dissapoints...

    Trip Report - Feb/Mar 2014

interesting report. You mentioned that you was not able to get to Punta Sal because of a guard gate to the new resort. If you turn left a few meters before the gate, there is a dirt road that takes you directly to Laguna de los Micos (monkey lagoon) and there you have excellent birding and...

    An alternative to Pico Bonito

Both places are great, Rio Santiago and Pico bonito are excellent for birding, and other wildlife. If you like macro photography both lodges have a light and spread , so that you can collect specimens , hundreds to pick from ! really weird ones too. For photographers, there is a lot of things to...

    Some birds in Honduras

Yes, Lancetilla and the general tela area is on of the best places for birding, due to the sheer number of species you can find in one outing. The Lake Yojoa area and Azul meambar National Park is also awesome.

    Some birds in Honduras

Thanks Niels, yes, I realize this, but I want to show a little more postings in this area, so that when someone is considering central America for birdwatching/wildlife then to show that Honduras is a very good alternative. I was quite happy with how my EM-5 focused on the hummers, its quite...

    Some birds in Honduras

Thanks for your kind words, much appreciated. Yesterday I went to Jeanette Kawas park and to a hotel near Ceiba that had hundreds of hummingbird feeders, really interesting. These shots were done with a small m4/3 format olympus EM5 with a 75-300mm olympus lens (that is a 600mm equivalent) , I...

    Hello

The 50-500mm OS from Sigma is a great combo in addition to the D7000, the high ISO ability of the camera works great for photographing birds in decent shutter speeds. the stabilization on the lens is awesome also, not to mention the great macro ability it has. Both are highly recommended.

    HONDURAN EMERALD Amazilia luciae

It could be, but they are not nearly as plentiful in Santa Barbara as they are in Olanchito. The interesting thing is that the flower they feed from in both areas is red and very similar is appearance to an untrained eye (mine, he he).

    HONDURAN EMERALD Amazilia luciae

usually birders are a different type of tourist, usually away from main cities. In small towns there is no really dangers unless out looking for them. Like any other country, go with guides that know their way around. I think that all Latin America is a tad dangerous, but usually and in general...

    new sony binoculars?

I am interested in the new sony binoculars (DEV 3 and DEV5), they are quite expensive but have a lot of stuff going for them, stabilized, they record photos and videos in high definition (even 3D for those that like that stuff), however, I see very little user reports, any comments from owners?

    Tikal National Park and Flores

I recommend staying in the hotels inside the park, it is a truly exciting experience, in Jaguar Inn they have great facilities for backpackers. In the hotels themselves, you have ample birding opportunities. Renting a vehicle is awesome (you must rent in flores, nowhere else available) that way...
