Coul Links Under Threat - Yet Again

Can't see any way round the postcode limitation. I can only assume it's because they're trying to get the Scottish Government to act, therefore Scottish residents. Fairly sure that wasn't the case the last time. Because I live in Scotland, my registration just went through, so I didn't know...

Coul Links Under Threat - Yet Again

Thanks Jos - wasn't aware of this. Might be worth trying RSPB directly or the Not Coul website. I'll look into this and see what I can come up with.

Coul Links Under Threat - Yet Again

Hi all Around 2017/18 an American billionaire tried to build a golf course on Coul Links, near Dornoch. The existing Royal Dornoch golf course, which is as exclusive as this one wanted to be, is 2 miles away. Local Councillors gave it the go-ahead, despite this being a triple-protected area...

    Feral Parrots, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria

But I wouldn't have known that Andy (although I've now learned another little bit). My lack of knowledge in the terminology led me to use "front" in the more general way, eg the front of a building. Also apologies to The_Fern if my first post seemed like an attack - it was more knee-jerk...

    Feral Parrots, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria

Sorry, just me misusing an established term which I wasn't aware of. By front, I was meaning from the chest area down. Apologies for confusion.

    Feral Parrots, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria

Quote: The_Fern - Suggest blue-fronted from Southern cone area based on: blue front (!) One of the reasons I almost give up on this. You are looking at a completely and undoubtably green front and say it's blue, as if that's a duh moment...do you really see that front as blue? Or is it just...

Help with Dipper behaviour- Dodder river in Ireland

Not an expert by any means, but observed quite a few dippers over the years, and suspect you would immediately know if this was a territorial thing - dippers take no prisoners...! Here's 2 males having at it on Arran, and the aggression did not stop until one had exited stage left. One pursued...

Canary Islands, Plan B in the Era of Omicron

Jos, this is great! Thanks for recording all this. Although I've been to Fuerteventura several times, my first trip to Tenerife was in December 2021. We'd cancelled / postponed all our overseas trips since Covid began, and the Tenerife holiday was sort of still sitting there, and we were...

Highland golf course plan is a possibility at Coul Links in Scotland again

Hi Murmur, hope all's well. Indeed, such incredibly bad luck with the fires, eh? To quote Ian Fleming: “Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action”...

Highland golf course plan is a possibility at Coul Links in Scotland again

Hi Ian, been aware of this. This new attempt has been lodged in the name of defunct organisation Embo Junior Football and Athletic Club. Defunct as in no longer exists... A local councillor seems to be behind it, and of course American billionaire Todd Warnock, who originally tried to get...

    Sound file, Glasgow Scotland

Many thanks Richard - just to let you know where I am with this, song thrush was one of the ones I looked up on xenocanto - and didn't recognise...! Although I did think that was closest out of those I searched, but still sounded different to me. Thanks again. Ian

    Sound file, Glasgow Scotland

Hi all After years on BF and a lot of members' help, I'm definitely getting better with visual ID, however sound is still largely a mystery to me. My wife recorded this about half an hour ago outside our front door (apologies for loud background hum) as dusk was kicking in. Not sure, but she...

    External hard drive recommendation

The important thng is that any data which is not replaceable (nowadays very few pictures are non-digital) is backed up, however you choose to do it. I have one Seagate 4TB and one WD Elements 4TB external drives (deliberately different makes). I update these both at the same time directly from...

    Montrose Basin..,..Thoughts & Observations ??

Hi Barney Not sure if this is of interest, but a memorable moment for me of Montrose Basin. I counted 147 curlew in the pic before I spontaneously combusted...! And that was just what the pic captured - left & right of this pic were more curlew. No attempt made to count anything else...

    Niger seed

Worth persevering with the niger - took the goldfinches a while to arrive, but regularly get 15-20 around the niger feeder (metal tube with tiny holes). I also get siskin at the niger, though not as often. Definitely worth it! Good luck.

Delia, would think it would also be in the Start -> Control Panel (maybe System or Device Manager) -> Camera, or maybe within a subset like Imaging or something...?
