    Sorry very poor Pics. Was looking at this Gull thinking it looked good for Caspian, long beak, long legged and typical stance. Tried to get pics but it flew just as I took shots. Also shows a small white mirror on P10 underwing although pale eye is not helpful. Anybody help?

    Another Gull! I had this down as a Herring although slightly atypical, but when in flight the wing pattern didn't look right. Apologies for the pics the "on the water" shots are over-exposed and the flight shots were a bit distant!

    Will do in future, but must admit I can't find that rule , maybe I missed it and you could let me know where the rules are. I read the post at the top of this forum from Fugl(I think) and there were "suggestions" but not rules. Thanks

    Flight shots, note the colours are darker in these pics than in the field, the mantle colour is very much in line with michahellis

    Hi , we have had this bird coming onto our local reserve in Poole, Dorset since November last . We had put it down as a Yellow-legged Gull, a species we regularly get through the winter, but we are now having 2nd thoughts. Have touted the pics around some locals with not much conclusion formed...

    Originally though this might be a 3rd winter Yellow-legged Gull, dark eye and leg colour are wrong, now thinking 3rd winter LBBG, although dark eye not right. Anybody steer me in right direction , Thanks

    I was thinking that as I typed the message. We are having an unprecendented autumn passage for Osprey. My patch, Lytchett Bay in Poole Harbour is having up to four daily for the last month. With birds catching in the bay and then using the trees around the bay to eat the catch.

    Thanks Guys for the replies, much as I thought. I was hoping to get an open-wing view and pic but unfortunately an Osprey went over and all the gulls/waders flushed and I lost the bird in the melee. Thanks again.
