    Yorkshire Birding

    I get around 25-30 goldfinches on the feeders as soon as i put out the sunflower hearts. I have seen a huge increase yet a decrease in the greenfinches.

    Barn Owl flying parallel to the car on Northumberland way in Washington 20:30 on Friday night. Very impressive.

    Jackdaws Nissan

    I live very close to the Nissan plant, they come over every evening, impressive site. Have been for years, Mrs walks the dog around there and she said it's looks as though they are landing on the roof. Not sure though.

    Large flock of house martins on the Wear at Fatfield (Washington) yesterday. First ones i have seen of the year. Wonder if I will get the nests front and back of the house again this year.

    Lovely walk with the family and dog up Drurage beach today, kicking myself for not taking my bins, so many birds around. At the base of the dunes there were loads of flies in the seaweed and a small flock of wagtails jumping up and grabbing them. However, these were definitely not pied wagtails...

    Fatfield Very large gathering (flock) of mixed swallows and house martins at fat field bridge yesterday also loads of chif chafs singing and very visible. Black caps and bull finches also. Male goosander with 4 females on the river.

    I went on a goshawk walk last year and saw a few. Park up at the Keilder Castle and head along the forestry drive. look along the tree line to your right. We got as far as the farmhouse before turning back. Plenty of ravens also and loads of crossbills.
